AI sees too good with flashlight at night
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Light from the torch on an AI primaryWeapon seems to translate into something much greater than what the player can see, in comparison to the player using a torch on a primaryWeapon.

If the player gets a hint of the AI's torch pointed in their direction they will be detected at extreme distances.

It is almost like the torch is translating the vision of the AI into NVG or FLIR.

Can confirm. AI can see slightly more than the actual light provided by the gunlight.

Here is the map that it was originally noticed in.

BLUFor doesn't have torches but OPFor torch luminance levels still seem hinky.

Please, could you create a repro-mission (with as limited amount of AI as possible, ideally just one)?

Pls try with AI with and without FL and also try to eliminate the influence of

  1. sound (AI hearing you)
  2. skylining
  3. ambient light

I've tried several scenarios, using both AI with and w/o flashlight and the advantage of FL didn't appear so big to me. It seems quite ok to me: http://youtu.be/3dkFAvxlRaM

Thanks a lot!

Your video looks spot on.
It may be the combined AI FL in the scenario I created

or I should go prone more often...

Thanks for looking into it.

No problem. Thank you for the report.

I will close it here. The AI has to be a bit indeterministic which makes it usually hard to isolate what's wrong. If you encounter any situation where this applies, please, feel free to reopen the issue.

Can confirm, just having troubles big time in the night time scouting mission (second part with the downed gunship, Adapt campaign); player sees near zilch, AI can engage player at 200+ meters.

Will try to provide a repro mission.

UPDATE: I believe it was fixed with 1.16, but will have to try a little more.

UPDATE2: According to my testing it's been resolved; I've tried soldiers both with scopes and regular riflemen: in a moonless, clouded night they're blind up to the point you're lit by their torches' light cone, as it should be.
