Wheeled APC/AFV's are too slow in reverse
New, WishlistPublic

Description

Usually you try to orient your vehicle with the front armor towards the enemy, which makes it necessary to drive backwards when you need to pull back. So the standard procedure would be:

  • popping smoke
  • orienting the front armor towards enemy
  • driving backwards out of the danger zone

Currently the wheeled APC/AFV's are very slow while driving backwards:
Marid 13 kph
Gorgon 14 kph
Marshall 15 kph

This makes the mentioned procedure less effective and its possibly better to make a u-turn to get away fast enough. I dont think that the reallife counterparts of those vehicles are that slow. In my opinion their speed should be increased to match at least the tracked vehicles in the game with a backward driving speed of 21-31 kph.

Should be changed, if someone can proof tha the real counterparts are higher.

^Needs to be checked against real life. Slovenian Valuk, upgraded Pandur I, has a max speed of 100 km/h, and a reverse speed of 15 km/h with 5 forward and 1 reverse gear.

The Pandur II, which the Gorgon is based on, has 6 forward gears and 1 reverse gear, with a max speed of 105 km/h. So based on that, I don't think Pandur II is likely to have a much higher reverse speed.

Patria AMV (Marshall) also has only one reverse gear (7 forward).
Arma 6x6 (Marid) also has only one reverse gear (6 forward).

Also the Fennek (Strider) has a maximum reverse speed of 23 km/h.

The reverse speeds for tracked vehicles seems higher, Leopard 2 = 31 km/h, Puma = 30-40 km/h, Pizzaro = 35 km/h. However these vehicles all have 2 reverse gears.

Anyways, consider the Leopard:

First reverse gear = 15 km/h max reversing speed
Second reverse gear = 31 km/h max reversing speed

For vehicles with only one reverse gear, based on this info, 15 km/h seems about right to me, unless someone can prove otherwise...
