Cave Systems and Waterfalls
New, WishlistPublic

Description

There has been a feature several of my group and I have been hoping BIS would implement into the terrain editor on ARMA 3. One of which is the ability to create cave systems. Being able to have cave warfare would be really epic. Not to mention it would change warfare dynamics quite a lot. The other feature is working rivers and waterfalls/rapids. This should be possible. I have seen some ArmA 2 maps with rivers but they were usually sad representations of rivers. Adding in the ability to have water "spawning" from a spring or cave, (cave systems with water.....) flow down a path and off a cliff side or precipice into a stream below would be really nice. I can see a waterfall with a cave system hidden behind it. Independents and other forces have made camp in the cave system where sporadic skirmishes are waged.

Underwater caves for subs and divers.......underwater backdoor entrance to cave systems for spec ops to clear the caves of insurgents.

Additional Information

ArmA has been missing the feature of flowing water sources and sub-terrain mapping. Being able to have tunnels and caves in ArmA 3 would be amazing as well as add to the overall beauty and aesthetics of the game as well as the tactical aspects. With the PhysX engine now working in ArmA 3, why not show the water physix that can be done in ArmA 3? What is really stopping us from having a stream running down a mountain from a cave at the top with a spring in it that connects it to the ocean water table? Or having a vehicle drive across a stream and have the tires kick up water splashing as it passes.

The engine doesn't support moving water.
/upvoted anyway

PhysX does, so the engine does...its built in to all PhysX engines. its possible, same with dynamic destrucion

I agree with vry. If the PhysX engine is in the new ArmA 3 Engine, then what works in PhysX should work in ArmA III.

PhysX should be able to increase the game by 200%
https://developer.nvidia.com/physx
here is an overview of what PhysX is capable of. most of these options should be used to improve the game

Thankfully PhysX no longer requires a PhysX card. It can be run on any hardware now. Only Nvidia cards will perform better with PhysX due to hardware acceleration. But there is nothing stopping an AMD Radeon user from sticking in a low end PhysX card to handle the PhysX engine.

Having watched the VBS (Virtual Battle Space/sim) 3.0 feature videos, I have seen all that VBS3 can do (streams and rivers with realistic water and so on. Building underground tunnels etc. This should be completely possible in ArmA 3. If not BI directly implementing it into the default maps themselves, at least make the ability possible in the BI Tools. That way, if a modder wanted to make a terrain that included a cave system and waterfalls etc, they could.
Also, the effects look amazing in those feature videos. I love the snow part too. I hope that gets added.
