Game freeze + crash, random, memory related? (rpt + dxdiag inside)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Occasionally the game freezes, causes the PC to work the HD a lot. This results in stutters and eventually, lockup, which shows a "Arma 3 stopped working" error upon ctrl+alt+deleting to the program manager.

Also occasionally the game causes the graphics card to completely fail, with the screen covered in colorful artifacts and flickers, followed by a total lockup requiring a cold start (reboot from push-button on the PC case, since all key-strokes are not registered anymore. Total lockup is indicated by numpad light stopping to switch.).

This seems to appear only when playing Arma, often occuring minutes to hours after the game has been started and closed again. I have not been able to reliably reproduce this error, but it has been occuring occasionally with the past three devpatches. {F22019} {F22020} {F22021} {F22022} {F22023}

Steps To Reproduce

Play game on Altis or Stratis (Stratis causes the lockup to occur much later, but it will eventually happen when many Units are on the map.), with few or no units, the game will begin to stutter up even when static after about an hour of play-time.

This is especially true when background programs are running (music, browser, gfx-manipulation program. Latter two are especially memory heavy, but when building missions I like to have the tutorials on hand.)

The total failure by the gfx card is very difficult to reproduce, it shows no pattern aside from that arma 3 needs to have been started at least once to occur. After testing no other game seems to reproduce this error, despite arma 3 being easiest on the card in terms of heat strain.

We need .bidmp and .mdmp matched with this .rpt file. (same name and time) Can you please upload somewhere and post link here please? Thank you.

Nothing helpfull in crashdump. Can you please upload more crashdumps? Thank you.

Do you have hw overclock?
Did you try install latest graphic driver? (Clean install)

No overclock, my drivers are the most recent non-beta Nvidia drivers, I am trying to reinstall them now and see if that changes anything. I just had another crash with the full release version (dev turned off too) with the same symptoms, complete lockup forcing ctrl+alt+delete and then the prompt "Arma 3 has stopped working".

The windows Install is also very recent, and the PC is generally in good order as far as other programs are concerned. The only one that gives crashes very, very reliably is A3 right now.

What is your PC rig?

Has been crashing with symptoms like this for the past days with great regularity, on clean PC and PC with apps running in the BG. Every time it gives a prompt "Arma 3 has stopped working".

It crashes every time I run the game by now, especially when the game has to load something. Time to crashes is about 20 ish minutes on a clean PC after a reboot, and five ish minutes on a PC with apps running in the BG.

Edit: I will retry to run the game without mods later and upload those logs if it crashes again, too.
