Movement & Tactical Pace
New, WishlistPublic

Description

Right now the soldier feels very stiff, and even though we are connected to our skeleton and can see our soldier's body, our guns still seem stuck to our face like any other FPS.

This ticket aims to offer a simple suggestion to remedy that feeling.

The suggestion is this:
When not in 'Tactical Pace' (we'll call this 'Combat State' for now), the soldier should have his gun shouldered and lowered.

Attached to this ticket are two images:

Image ONE shows how the suggested system would look in-game
Image TWO shows how the current system looks in-game

This is mostly an aesthetic change. The only major change would be your normal idle stance - which would now be this lowered weapon state.
Considering how much people use the tactical pace key right now, this change shouldn't be an issue.

Note that AI soldiers already run around in this lowered weapon state, so the animation is already in - could it not be re-purposed for players?

I figured that while the suggestions in the ticket linked above would improve things, you could still get a decent result following the suggestions in this ticket, with probably a lot less work needed..

You need the gun up to visually discern running vs sprinting. Notice only the player character does this, AI does not.

It is not entirely necessary, but I am also not sure this is really worth the effort.

I disagree. You know when you're sprinting because you're moving faster, you can notice this visually (objects getting closer to you faster) and audibly too (footsteps more frequent).

You also have freelook, which you can use at any time to see your gun and whatever else.

You could always just tap your Tactical Pace key.. which most players tend to do a lot anyway.
Also in the default difficulty your gun's information is permanently displayed on screen

I think the practicality of this change outweighs any consequential disadvantages.
