AR-2 Darter turns waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too slowly
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The AR-2 Darter takes 30 seconds to do a full 360° turn, meaning it rotates at 12° per second.

This is just way too slow, and therefore, at the moment, it's not feasible to even try to turn the drone.

Regular RC versions of these take less than 3 seconds to do a full 360°. Don't tell me a military grade drone, albeit a lot bigger, needs 10 times as long to do the same maneuver.

It's just tedious to fly up to a building, wait 7.5 seconds to turn to face the door way. Then move forward (Which is very fast), then wait 30 seconds to do a 360° to look around inside the room (By which time any enemy in the room would have shot it to pieces already), then wait 15 seconds more to turn 180° to face back out the door, and then move forward.

I don't even bother looking around with it anymore when checking if a compound is clear. I just fly around in a square, then fly backwards back to me, hoping I don't hit something.

I've stopped using the drone, because it's just 30 times faster to walk into a building or a camp to check if it's clear, albeit riskier.

Most radio controlled aircraft in real life have a function on the controller called "Dual-Rate" which lets the operator set two different speeds for a servo, set of servos, or engine speeds. I have personally used this on RC heli's to change the yaw speed, roll and pitch rates, and at times collective pitch rates.

Having this "Dual-Rate" option on the Darter would be nice. For navigation, have the DR set to "High" to increase yaw, but when you need a slower, more stable platform, set it to "Low" to slow things down a bit.
