Graphical Bug: Shooting at grainy shadows on trees causes funny holes in the shadow

You may have noticed that some shadows are quite grainy. If you shoot at such a shadow on a tree, it produces a bright spot/hole in the shadow. Try for yourself or look at the attached screenshot.

If you shoot at a shadow that is not in the grainy area, this effect does not appear. {F21072}

What exactly are those grainy areas? I never saw something like that IRL.

i don't know why they do it, but it sure looks stupid. here's a ticket dealing with it (on guns):
