AI movement would really benefit from a smooth pathing - concerning authenticity as well as gameplay.
Currently, troops do not seem to use strafing at all, they just tend to move in circles around obstacles as they do since OFP - even without objects in their way they would not smoothly adjust their direction but curving on and on even on a flat field.
First this behaviour looks quite stupid and artificial and second it detracts or even prevents players to aim at or shoot the AI as they would intuitively suggest to. Maybe AI with strafing-abilities would even reduce further issues with pathfinding just as moving in houses, following your lead or close-combat behaviour. In any case it would grant a way more realistic look and much better and more fluid general impression that the Arma-AI is lacking for years now!
As I said, this has been a major "feature" of the ArmA-Series from the start and i cannot see any improvement to this matter at all. Maybe this technique would be a great advantage to troops in real life, because ArmA-Players know how hard it is to fire at AI-controlled troops performing these maneuvers - even though it sure would be quite exhausting circumventing every obstacle instead of simply adjusting your direction for a few degrees.
