Free Weapon Customization Before SP/Coop Missions, Showcases, Scenarios etc..
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I believe that before playing Arma, one should be able to absolutely freely customize one's loadout. Everything ranging from clothes to weapons to other items such as NV goggles or so should be left upon the player to decide what to bring and what not to bring. I would like to see a "Loadout Customization" button in the briefing section, where you are able to customize everything on your soldier.

That's why the VAS script is there. If mission makers want you to have a custom loadout, they'll use it. If the don't, they won't. You can't just make a hostage rescue mission or something where you only have a pistol or something and then the player chooses to take a Titan, and LMG and 15 grenades.

As a real soldier, I'm allowed to pick my own equipment down (of course with some restrictions). Why shouldn't I be able to change equipment to my liking? I can do it in real life, but not in Arma. Arma is known for realism and why shouldn't you be allowed to pick your equipment by your own? There should be limitations on what you can bring at most, if mission creators want you to only have a specific amount of first aid kits or ammo etc.

Hopefully there is some equipment left for you then, Soldiers do not get to pick there own equipment, you are trained to use certain equipment, a grunt wont use an M107 because he wont be able to shoot anything with, he will be trained with an M16 or M4, so weapons should be character specific.

Picking weapons as you please is more of a mercenary scenario/open sandbox than being given specific mission based equipment

So bohr1 I'm voting it down

I said, if the mission maker wants the player to pick his weapon, he'll use VAS or something like that. If he doesn't, he won't.

An ammobox in the middle of nowhere isn't what you find on a typical battlefield, but if you insist on using VAS...

@Johnnie: Soldiers are issued their weapons, but a typical soldier will modify it with a personal choice of attachments, and customization is not limited on the weapon, it extends to personal equipment, like whether you're wearing NV goggles, sunglasses etc..
