More Realistic Munition Guidance System
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This is a precautionary feature request to inform of the errors that ArmA 2 had and propose a more sophisticated system to be used in ArmA 3.

I will give examples of different munitions and detail how they were used in A2, and how it should be in A3. Many of these propositions are based on community modifications of A2.

"Dumb bombs" e.g the Mk82 and the FAB-250.
In Arma 2: The Mk82 UNGUIDED bomb could lock on to radar targets and hit the target even in unrealistic circumstances. The FAB-250 had no guidance at all, which is appropriate considering it being pretty outdated. Maybe in the future Russian/Iranian dumb bombs will have a system comparable to CCRP, which I will detail next.

How it should be done:
CCRP release system as featured in the ACE mod for ArmA 2.

Basically you put the reticle down on the target, hold the fire button, and when your aircraft is in the right spot it releases the bomb.

Laser-Guided bombs e.g GBU-12 Paveway
In ArmA 2:
You can lock on to a designation by a infantry designator, UAV designator or similar. This is pretty good already, but then the pilot has no solitary way of guided delivery.

How it should be done:
A targeting pod that can be operated by either the pilot on single-seaters or the gunner/co-pilot on two-seaters that can designate targets for guided bombings. Real aircraft have targeting pods for LGBs and missiles.

Mando Missiles mod for A2 has this covered: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgS9MPF1H-k

Last but not least I also want to request GPS guided JDAMs to be added into A3, like the ones in GLT Missilebox mod for A2. This allows for precise airstrikes on static targets like buildings. Here is some footage of it.

Not a urgent request but something i'd like to see.
