Objective marker visibility .. user now unable to change color from white !! (Helicopter View, Beta 0.71.107360 and prev )
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The Objective Marker visibility issue was first reported under Bug #1328 in March 2013 and finally assigned to Moricky on June 28. Assigned priority LOW...hmmmm...not at all 'LOW' for those of us attempting to be helicopter or plane pilots in the game.....

The reason for this additional bug-report is that somewhere between Alpha and Beta, the Objective Marker color was detached from the Active Marker group by the Bohemia team and made non-changeable from White.. there does not appear to be any control on the Objective Marker color in the current ARMA3 Beta UI. A thin black outline may have been added to the (white) Objective Marker, but against the terrain trees etc, this is pretty ineffective.

In Alpha, since the Objective marker was included in the Active Marker group, a color "band-aid" could be applied to the Objective Marker visibility problem by changing the Active Marker group color to bright yellow. Of course that means that the five helicopter warning panels also were bright yellow in their "undamaged" state.

Now that the Objective Marker visibility in Beta cannot be user-changed from (near-invisible) White, I shall here repeat the suggestion I made a few months ago under Bug #1328. Hopefully "Moricky" will read this, especially the last paragraph, where I have added the title "A Solution" :-

(Comment originally added to Bug Report #1328, 2013-04-03, now slightly updated)

The default-white Objective Marker in the 3D-view frequently gets lost in the background of the island scenery, white ground-color, waves, clouds etc. Outlining the marker might help a little, but the real fix is a color change to a high-luminance value different from the scenery. In the case of the Stratis scenery, bright YELLOW may be the best choice.

However, there is a linked problem in the ARMA3 Alpha UI. The InGame color choices are severely block-restricted... the Objective Marker is lumped into the "Active Markers" color-group so that if you want to change the Objective Marker color to, say, Yellow , then (for example) the 'Normal' Status of the Helicopter condition flags (White) is also changed to Yellow, and the weapon cross-hair is also changed to yellow.

The Objective Marker color issue is really a symptom of a bigger (but pretty easy to fix) problem in the UI Color Selections......

(A SOLUTION) The InGame "Active Markers" color group needs to be broken out into its logical subgroups.. Status flags, Aiming reticules, Objective markers.. etc... with USER-control of EACH subgroup color. The default for all can initially be white, of course.
