One of the problems with commanding AI squadmates is that they can move too slowly while in Combat mode, and end up getting killed in certain situations. I know a feature of the AI is that it tries not to follow orders that would cause it to run carelessly into fire. However, a human always knows best (usually), and sometimes AI squad-mates need to do what they're told.
It would be useful to have a command that would force AI teammates to temporarily disengage all enemies and make a run for a location. Maybe they could do evasive maneuvers if under fire, but definitely not covering each other or randomly crawling around like they do now. They would need to forget everything and just RUN.
An example for when this would be useful is say an APC shows up in the middle of a firefight, and you have a fire team in a position where they can easily be pinned down. A human player can judge that their best chance of survival is to make a run for a better position that has an escape route before the APC closes in.
You can try to work around this issue by telling units to move individually, forcing them to stand, telling them to hold fire, etc. But this doesn't really work most of the time, and the keystrokes take too long anyway.
