Scout choppers have horrible vision, and machine guns are worthless
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

While flying you can't see nothing unless you get right on top of infantry.. The zoom is also too weak... You can't see nothing at all unless hovering in a totally defenseless position from 50-150 meters.

Way too unrealistic.. they need more zoom or something.. or perhaps the ants on the ground need to be magnified thru some kind of code to be more realistic

To make matters worse.. the machine guns are weak and pathetic... can sit there shooting thousands of rounds and the bullets bounce all around the target and do nothing, while the target one shots you back between the eyes from 1000m

fly into some infantry with the scout chopper and try to kill them

Additional Information

AI does not shoot at chopper.. only player in chopper.. which is very wrong...
Never does a chopper get shot down, only a pilot shot out over and over hehe

I re-report this because moderator keeps saying duplicate issue in regards to AI accuracy. nothing to do with that... the devs must be made aware of the chopper problems

This is how the chopper is in real life, you're asking for some sort of optical gun-sight, which the real chopper lacks.

Same for the guns, firing the miniguns from 1000m at a target that you can hardly see from a moving helicopter is not going to be the most accurate thing in the world. Besides, the bullets have no special explosive effect, if all your shots go 1 inch to the left of him it's still going to have a minimal effect because they didn't actually hit him.

yeah it's realistic, the weapon hardly made any kills in real life as well. it usually just caused panic and made the enemies disperse. of course you can't simulate that in this game due to soldier soldier ai.

I can hit people without too much trouble, you just need some practice

Spotting infantry from the air is a matter of being patient and orbiting at the right distance. As far as the miniguns being inaccurate I'm inclined to say that the ROF of the miniguns is currently not high enough.

The real M134s on an AH-6 have selectable fire rates that can be toggled between 2000 and 4000 rpm. With two guns firing that's 66.6 and 133.3 rounds every second. Statistically that's a lot of bullets saturating point of aim and you are going to hit people in that cone of death.

Just some notes:
In real life, your eyes are not able to zoom :)
Then these weapons are used for suppresive fire, not for killing(Like LMG soldiers).
AI shooting only when they are ordered to engage.

IRL you don't have zooms in your cockpit unless you are in the gunner seat of an attack helicopter (and this is not the case).

Also, minguns are just fine.
You can hit infantry with some practice and you can hit vehicles just fine.
You have some little bullet dispersion too to help you out.

The whole point of infantry camouflage and concealment is to prevent you being seen by a pilot with a bionic eye. In real life they (infantry) will hear and see you long before (if ever) you see them and the first time that you will be aware of infantry is when a Stinger comes flying up to say hello.

Once the game is released or maybe even at beta stage, you will have the full range of available choppers and no doubt many will be equipped with thermal vision and you'll be able to sit 6 kms away smoking a cigarette and drinking Pepsi while pwning the whole battlefield with tab/fire.

I agree with the OP here.

I don't think he is talking about trying to shoot them from 1000m back but when making a strafe pass in general. I've used this chopper a lot lately and I find the only real way to hit someone is to zoom in on one infantry and make a pass adjusting excessively as you go to ensure you hit him directly. Its incredibly annoying when you make a pass on 20 infantry all cluttered up and nobody gets hit.

The thing about being shot out of the chopper, I can see if you are really close but I've been shot out of my chopper before while still moving aprox 50km/hr hovering sideways with my glass facing them by a MACHINE GUNNER. I know the glass isn't bullet proof, but its resistant and its got lots of angles on it for a reason.

I'm not saying to make this thing invincible but I do agree it needs some work. The pilot shouldn't have to rely only on rockets to get the job done.

The only real issue here is the fact that there is no suppression effect on the AI while they are surrounded with bullet impacts from the gathling gun... The first reaction of a real player would be to hide and only after that try to shoot at the heli.
