As of now pistols are pretty much useless. Generally you'll only use them once you're out of ammo for your primary. Therefore i'd suggest making the transition from Rifle to Pistol much faster (as it is in RL), more fluently and executable while moving. This way The Pistol would be a viable option in CQB situations should you not have the time to reload.
