1.) Look at any RTT/PIP screen.
2.) Note the complete lack of any shadows.
Look at the picture attached. The infantryman does not have a shadow reflected on the ground.

Alex72: I understand your concern. Therefore, if shadows are added for RTT, it should only be for the highest "PiP" setting in the video options.
Like I said, only have shadows appear on RTT for the highest setting. and have all other settings use the current method.
That way, people with weaker machines can still play the game, and people with more powerful rigs can play on the highest setting.
Agreed, shadows give that extra depth and beauty to the environment, it feels alien when you drive through an area with beautiful shadows and see your mirror is showing an alternate dimension where shadows do not exist.
Wierder still is that normal and specular maps are visible so perhaps Rvmats should be disabled on PIP for the first two lowest settings?
It's one of those things where it's a nice feature but it's not polished quite yet, PIP still has a ways to go before it's the best it can be.
My please, I'd love to see RTT reflect the world fully with shadows, also helps with depth.. If they are concerned over performance then they really should make more video options that are separate and allow the user to decide wether or not the performance hit is worth it.
another reason why the engine sucks...can't even do pip properly while source eengine already cna do it easily with all effects enabled. pathetic.
Soo if PIP is a feature from VBS2 then why can VBS2's version render shadows but not A3?'s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRraq0UdWU4
And frames wouldn't be an issue if it were optional, if PIP is too much for people then they shouldn't be using it in the first place.
Ender, like we said earlier, have shadows only show up on the highest setting. We're not suggesting they make it mandatory; that would be just silly.
I like highest setting how it is, it runs fine and is the smoothest picture. Adding shadows to the highest setting might change that for some people. If anything another ( higher )setting should be added if this is implemented although i think its quite pointless TBH.
The only thing the differing settings do between RTT is add a bit of draw distance, thats it.
Also I can think of a few reasons the most prominent would be an easy cheat, if shadows can be forced on server then I can just ignore that rule and use RTT since it renders no shadows.
Secondly it adds depth and thirdly a shaded world without shadows just looks odd.
You're...welcome? I meant to say "my pleasure" earlier but I somehow flumoxed that up.
I really do hope shadows make it into RTT...really after seeing that VBS2 video and seeing that shadows are rendered in the mirrors, there is just no excuse and it rather ticks me off.
That said, I'm not going to bother crossing my fingers or hold my breathe but it would be a most welcome surprise.
