Rock/cliff geometry hitbox bigger than actuall geometry\world
Reviewed, HighPublic

Description

Some of the geometry (especially big stones) have hitboxes bigger than the actual object. This results in your weapon being clear of the enviroment\obstacle but your bullets still hitting the world geometry.

  • Somehow the AI dont seem to be affected by this..

Ive had this problem a lot of places actually, but an example can be found at:

Example is X: 3540.65 Y:4928.86 Z:204.61 GRID: 035049 The imidiate rocks to your SE.. Prefrably spawn as autorifle with tracers.. Step about 10 meters back and you'll notice the bullets hit\bounce ab out 30cm above the actual rock..

(remember to take into account your sights is mounted above your barrel ;))

Yeah, I've had issues with this today in a multiplayer Co-op game.

I was about to fire at an enemy soldier, and I was clearly aiming around the rock, in the right lean stance while crouched.

I fired and saw pieces of rocks flying up. I could have actually done something if I could fire like I was supposed to be able to.

Need a repro mission made in the editor with soldier positioned near said rocks.

this issue is neither high priority or major severity, I understand its frustrating to shoot at a target and have your projectiles snag on invisible hitboxes, but keep in mind its extremly hard to create a 100% accurate custom hitbox for every object in a game let alone one of this magnitude. It will simply take too much time and effort and will cause severe load on the system to track all of them. usualy most objects in alpha use placeholder hitboxes that are similar to an objects geomatry like a box or a sphere or a phyramid, etc.

As the game becomes more developed there will be better hitboxes for the placholders and most of the issues will be resolved, but most likely you will run into hitboxes not matching the exact visuals in some objects.

yep, and this also causes your character to look like he's floating when stepping on top of some of these rocks. the litter/decoration object geoemtry should be slightly SMALLER than the objects themselves, not larger. this will help gameplay tremendously as well since lots of objects simply look way too small/low to block shots yet they do.

lonewolf, the solution is shrink all of the object/litter/decoration geometry hitboxes.

i'd rather sink an inch into the rocks rather than float a feet above them.

I agree, but that can also cause you to be getting shot or shoot through the corner of an object that you belive is solid or not open. It just takes time to polish these.

This is a big problem when playing player vs player.

Player A hides behind a stone.

  1. Player A often can't be hit by Player B.
  2. Player A can adjust his high so he can't even be seen by Player B but still can shoot Player B.
  3. Player B has a huge disadvantage.

This is not a minor problem. It causes a lot of frustration.

Its "minor" bugs like theese that ruin the simulator experience, especially considdering how much effort is being put into RS weapon simulation, bullet trajectories and ballistics calcualtions. What is the point if the hit-zones are off?

Its like shooting at a digital range where some retard have adjusted all the targets down by double, because black sights on black center was "unconvenient".. :p

-Is there a command to show hitboxes as solids or 70% solid?

It's an Alpha/Beta like this so we can detect and report bugs like these, so the devs can fix them before the final game releases ;)

I'm with LoneWulf here and patient enough to wait till the full game before really start complaining.

@octavian: keep up the good work of posting these bugs, it will help the devs making a better game :D

issue still there, still gets me killed on a frequent basis. still frustrating.
