Game slowly loses frame rate/begins to stutter and leads to crash with the below application crash message
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This seems to happen more often in MP games for me than SP. The last time this happened I was playing a custom mission in co-op mode on a private LAN server with myself and no one else playing other than AI.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Get into sp mission or mp mission, typically with high server population
  2. Stay in high-scenery areas (flying low over forests, moving through villages)
  3. Look around often; use night vision in high-density scenery areas; fast moving helicopter flight at low altitudes under high-density scenery
Additional Information

The nature of this crash has happened to me three times now since the alpha release (slowly begins to stutter, frame rate drops, then game crashes). Only once have I been able to actually access an error message in windows after the crash, displayed above.

I had experienced crash only once however the steps to reproduce are pretty exact - stuttering and fps drops in multiplayer games most of the time and game restart actually helps.. (3570k, ATI 7950, 8GB RAM)

We need dxdiag and files from this folder for solve your problem. C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\Arma 3 Alpha\

Can you upload somewhere in winrar package please?
When package will be smaller than 5,000k, so you can attach here. Thank you.

Sure thing, Ive upped the whole folder in .zip at dropbox.com, hope that helps:

Can you try change shadow settings to Standart for now? I solved very similar issue with one user. He has same GFX.

definitely can try it, will keep you posted after some game play with the mentioned settings.

Thanks for the update!

Astaroth, I'm not sure where to get 'dxidiag'. I know how to *run* dxdiag, most of the information I have from it has been posted above in the problem descriptor. Can you be more specific if you need an actual log or file? According to the "how to guide" you posted, dxdiag can only *show* information in windows 7.

I uploaded my arma 3 alpha files under the main file upload tab. I'll try and give the standard settings a shot too and will report back in a day or two.

to Finity1:
These files are enough.
Where do you have this issue? Singleplayer? Multiplayer? Do you have this issue in Escape from Stratis or Headhunters?

I noticed the same fps drops on wasteland missons in multiplayer game. I flew around the island at low altitude and the game randomly drop fps from 40+ to 3 even to image freez. After 10-15 sec everything back to normal and i had the same 40+ as before.

I also had it multiple times in multiplayer not only wasteland! Once in editor preview too.
Maybe this not matter but as i remember i was allways near to Air Station Mike-26.

Astaroth this issue is gone for me - that means one of your updated fixed it (Im on dev) or the Shadow settings you mentioned did the trick. Will eventually try different shadow settings but hey it works! Thanks :)

I've had a similar issue since at least arma 2, where my GPU usage starts dropping slowly. Frametimes go also crazy and when I alt+tab, windows asks if the colour sheme should be changed to basic. Haven't waited till crash if the game doesn't crash before framerate drops to under 20 but I assume the game would crash eventually.

Added screencap of afterburner. That gpu usage dropping isn't the worst of its kind and it actually rises to almost normal levels, but still...

I had just assumed that this was due to the game having to keep track of more objects than my computer could handle... I think I'll be giving that shadows thing a try too. GTX 570 here as well.

Astaroth-

It seemed for a while that this issue had slowly gone away but I experienced it again tonight playing another custom scenario (TDM Forest East) multiplayer PVP. My shadow settings are set to standard along with many of my other graphical settings.

This crash has become a lot less frequent for me but it still is an occurring issue (in MP only it seems)

Can you please upload crashdumps with this crash? Every .rpt .bidmp and .midmp file has time and date in name, so you can find correct files, when you know, which time game crashed. Thank you.

I uploaded .rpt and .midmp files, however I have a recent .mdmp file that is around 9mb and even when it is compressed in a .rar to 2,523KB I still can't upload it (file is too large error message pops up).

Hopefully the ones I did send can help though. I believe you should already have my dxdiag information.

I uploaded more .rpt and .bidmp files for the crash I had today on a multiplayer, deathmatch 'airstation' map (custom scenario). The game started out and ran fine, then for about 10-15 minutes of the game I noticed a framerate drop that consistently made my video/framerate a bit more choppy and laggy but was still playable. Finally the game crashed with the following error in windows:

As a side note I noticed this problem was related by MadDogX, issue 0006904. Looks like exactly the same issues I'm having.
