Streamlining control configuration/commands
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The interface when changing controls needs to be drastically streamlined. The process of changing keys for commands is hilariously unnecessarily slow, and has been since the days of Operation Flashpoint.
With the team's obvious ambition of creating a more streamlined product, this should DEFINITELY follow suit.

Instead of being alerted of a key conflict, the game should instead just overwrite whatever command the desired key was used for previously. And instead of bringing the user to a new dialogue when wishing to change key for a command, allow them to stay on the command list so that one can overview the available commands.

In addition to this, there are MANY commands that are entirely superfluous. Instead of having three or four different commands for stances, you only need two - stance up and stance down. Instead of having five or six commands for movement speed, you only need three - speed up, speed down and hold to sprint.

Again, since streamlining and optimization seems to be a higher priority on this release, making the entire user interface more friendly should follow.

Sorry, but none of the suggestions in this ticket have merit for Arma:

  1. Sometimes double binding is desired.
  2. The extra dialog is required for complex bindings, aswell as those involving the mouse.
  3. Some people actually use those extra stance and speed keys.
