Oversight in selection of placement items in Editor
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I got the game and being familiar with Arma, I just jumped straight into the editor and started to create a mission. I was happy with the development progress in Arma 3 and how it was acting, but I quickly got stumped. I got stumped on the ability to enter items/objects into the mission. I actually was so stumped that I thought I had to create scripts and tie them to my units to be able to get objects, and proceeded in this manner. By objects, I mean all the guns and whatnot.. Simply put, there was no objects to place in the mission using the editing tool. There was nothing to select, but men.

I now realize what the problem is... It's an oversight of some sort on the design implementation, or <cough> a bug.

If you do not put a player infantry in the mission.. The "SIDE:" selection "Empty" does NOT appear in the editor. So you can never place an object in game until you place a player unit on the map.

As a new user, I found this odd, and definitely wasted a few hours of my time being green to the software... I feel the need to report this and don't quite understand why this "Empty" selection should only occur after playing a player unit in the mission... I do feel its a bug thus why I am reporting this...

Steps To Reproduce

Open editor... on a clear mission.... Double Click the map, and notice there is no "Empty" selection on the SIDE drop down. Thus no items can be brought into the map.

It will appear, if you enter a unit on the map.

Since a player unit is always required, I would see this as "no bug".
