If the game freezes the overlay of the game makes it so you cant end task in task manager. As Windows 8 is a new OS and is "not compatibal" with windows 8 the game overlay is priority over everything including task manager. So the game task cannot be ended. Only solution to this is to turn off your PC/laptop

Does this happen when you play in Windowed mode or just in Fullscreen? Do you have Task manager set to "Always on top"?
