We need more info for solve this problem. Please send crash dump. How find crash dump and how report crash you can find, when you click in upper right corner on "How to Guide" button. Thank you.

Same here. Please fix ASAP, it's one thing to release an Alpha for testing, but another for it to not even work.

Win 7 64bit
3.10ghz quad core i3-2100
8GM RAM
GTX 560
Latest Nvidia drivers

to clarify what astaroth said, the "How to" guide to send a crash dump is in the right corner on top of the screen (not left, at least on my computer).

EDIT : corrected ;) . Millhauz

We need files from this foder: Arma 3 Alpha: C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\Arma 3 Alpha\

Thank you.

Yeah sorry, my mistake, it's right corner.

btw I did check for that folder and for some reason it's not there (however I do own Arma2 and Operation Arrowhead, and those folders are there). I created a "Arma 3 Alpha" folder just incase, but game still crashes, nor is there anything in this folder after the game crashes.

I doubt we can get the crash report from .rpt files, because for us, who have this problem, game haven't been launched and couldn't create these files.

Please try use -nobenchmark command line option.

Right click on Arma III in your Steam Library>Properties>Set launch options

Jonijs added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 6:14 PM

Nothing, same crash report from Windows as above.

Astaroth, thanks for your suggestion but sadly it didn't work :( does the game have any issues with 64 bit version of windows? alot of people who posted this same problem seem to be running 64 bit aswell.

Here is more info with other people with the same problem: http://steamcommunity.com/app/107410/discussions/0/864961537301990133/

L3gion added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 6:18 PM

Same problem here.

"-nobenchmark" Does not work.

Is Arma III logo shown on screen, or game crashes before logo is shown?

game crashes before logo. Click "play" button on steam, mouse cursor shows the loading icon, then the windows screen saying "Arma 3 alpha has stopped working" shows up.

btw thanks for helping out with this issue, can't say the same for Bohemia, been emailing them over an hour ago but no reply, and I know it was only 5pm in Czech Republic so everyone there is wide awake... or should be.

L3gion added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 6:22 PM

No, it goes direct to the "stopped working"

The game crashes before any logos appear! The game cannot launch at all.

Just to note that the "stopped working" window is a "MS Windows" error dialog window... if that's any help. Not a Steam window.

None of them, because game didn't even started. Lauched game from Steam -> Usual Steam check-ups -> Crash. Didn't even see the game screen pop up.

I have the same problem the game crashes and locks my PC I have to use windows 7 task manager to close...this happens after a minute of play in SP Infantary game. So I tried to upload BIDMP & the RPT file but just got an error APPLICATION ERROR #501 now what ?

Can you send DX diag on my email? astaroth@bistudio.com
Thank you

About application error #501. I think that file was too large. Can you upload somewhere (rapidshare for example) and let link here?

I get an instant crash before seeing anything. No rpt files or Arma 3 folder created.

Version 0.5.102.571. Tried both no-beta and development.

My dxdiag - http://rapidshare.com/files/3378936992/DxDiag-hypnotic_geese.txt

DIVZ added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 6:48 PM

I used the nobenchmark option and the game managed to even load the game until the intro movie of the infantry showcase but then it froze and it still crashed..

Thx all for info, I sent all informations to our programmers. I hope that it will fix ASAP, but please be patient, solve crash without crash dumps is not easy.

DIVZ added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 7:08 PM

I have added my DXDIAG and the files in a winrar and uploaded them to this post, hope that it helps Astaroth

DIVZ added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 7:21 PM

I just fixed it by verifying the game cache in Steam

L3gion added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 7:57 PM

Verifying the Game Cache do not work here.

  • The game have started to load one time, but stopped responding in loading, and i had not permission to "kill" the prosses in task manager. So had to do a restart...
L3gion added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 8:06 PM

WOOPS! I think i have the fix!

Hmm.. it seems like Arma 3 Alpha & Zone-Alarm are so good friends..

UNINSTAL zone-alarm
Restart computer
Verify the game
???
PLAY! :D

Hope this help for you! now i am going to play!

Jonijs added a comment.Mar 5 2013, 8:14 PM

It works!!!! I don't know why they don't get along, but uninstalling ZoneAlarm helped me also.

Thank you for that suggestion!

L3gion thanks so much mate, you are a star!!!

Uninstalling Zonealarm fixed the issue for me.

Uninstalling Zone-alarm solved this issue for me. I am not happy with that as a final solution though and would appreciate the issue being solved, Arma 3 or Zonealarm, so I run a secure firewall again rather than the Windows Firewall.

I don't have Zonealarm (Eset Smart Security 6 instead) and even If I deactivate the whole program the game keeps crashing with the same crash problem the author has.

Vojta_ added a subscriber: Vojta_.May 7 2016, 10:27 AM

I had the same problem.. i tried deactivate my avira and it looks good now.. I played almost 15min without crash.. so maybe it's a problem between game and antivirus..

Uninstalled ZA and started to work
Before it didn't even create AppData content.
At least two different application error level events (in Event Viewer) before uninstall of ZA.
OS 64bit Win7 SP1

EDIT by millhauz

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1402817/arma3_nomodule_error_report.wer

I confirm these crashes on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit PC, too. I don't use Zonealarm, just Avira Antivirus Free - and I don't suspect it to cause the crashes.

The game crashes now and then, before the logo or anything appears, in the first 2 starts it freezed with 100% CPU usage in the main menu and I could only kill it manually. But after that, I got it running by changing the graphics settings with autodetect.

Now I had a crash with the same notification as the crashes that appear before the game starts - this time from within the running game, it actually generated a dump file. Here is the crashdump and my DxDiag file:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/hv0uwng4ezmkuxa/Arma%203%20Alpha%20Crashdump%20and%20DxDiag.7z?m

That should help.

Edit:
Uploaded the file here as well, to make sure it doesn't get lost one day. Didn't see the upload function in the first place. :)

2nd Edit:
To complete my info about the crash, this is what the Windows notification says:

I found it interesting that it names ntdll.dll as error module, could be a clue, maybe. ^^

zonealarm was causing the game to not start, uninstalling zonealarm fixed the problem.

is there anything else I can do to help other people fix this problem?

uploaded rpt file as 7z because rpt file is not allowed upload type, I don't know if it was generated before or after I got it working. Thanks ARMA fans for helping to polish this game.

Same problem. I use Zone Alarm. Same problem after uninstall the zone alarm, only for try this solution. But the prblem don't solve for me.

having the exact same issue, and have tracked down that there is no files in my Documents folder, the ArmA3 folder does not exist. Another strange issue I noticed was when I attempted to use Six launcher to launch the game through steam, the program recognized an error: "It appears your game Key is not entered into the registry"

The methods I've tried so far include:

--using -winxp and -nobenchmark
--I do not use ZoneAlarm, but I checked my anti-virus and it wasn't at fault.
--updated DirectX through the provided launcher
--Ran steam in admin mode and without, reinstalled several times

Just updated to the Nvidia beta drivers 314.14 and it has solved my issue same as some above with the black screen. I also read that msi afterburner can cause problems.

http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=273
http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?147520-ArmA-3-Black-Screen-Display-Drivers-Stopped-Working

I have seen this on several PC's. I have also seen it so that when the "server" crashes, it triggers all clients to crash as well. I have enabled local mode dumps. If I catch it again, I will upload one.

Full crash dump. Have 3 more if you need them.

My game crashed during downloading Game Data. I've uploaded a Crash Dump and DxDiag called "Arma 3 Alpha - Crash Dump and DxDiag.rar" please take a look at it.
Btw keep up the good work!

To Davy:
My game crashed during downloading Game Data. Do you mean, when you download user mission in multiplayer, or where. This is only one place, where something is downloaded.

Davy added a comment.Mar 6 2013, 11:12 AM

To astaroth:
I joined a Team DM server, the game downloaded the user mission file. And after that it froze on downloading Game Data and crashed the game.

To Davy:
Please create new issue, this is not same problem. Thank you.

I can confirm this issue. Had the same appcrash when starting. Removed Zonealarm and now Arma3 works.

Jonijs added a comment.Mar 6 2013, 2:05 PM

Alright ZoneAlarm users (or ex-users), looks like in BI forums the culprit for crash problems has been found: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?147513-Uninstall-ZoneAlarm-if-Alpha-not-starting&p=2314798&viewfull=1#post2314798

Sorry if it doesn't immidiatly help those who doesn't use ZoneAlarm, but maybe this could provide a lead for the source of the problem.

Ok. Made our server start catching dumps as well. Here is a dump that crashed and caused all 40 clients that were connected to crash with the same dump type:

EDIT : Do not copy paste txt files or text from any other files to Notes. Millhauz

Please delete that huge post and upload the files instead, there is a upload function on top of the page. This post makes it a pain to follow the thread!
Also, this was just the content of the RPT file, you should add the arma3.mdmp and arma3.bidmp to the zip file as well, if you have them.

Having same issue: application stops working at "Bohemia Interactive Presents" logo screen. Added my dxdiag+dmps

For me, it crashed at the logo screen after i installed freetrack. after creating a file freetrack was missing, it worked for me again (issue # 3241)

Crashing very often. Either freezing the screen (ctrl alt del to kill arma.exe) or out of memory (1 time so far only). Running DX9 so no DX11 crash so far.

rndmplyr, indeed, i have freetrack and your solution helped me, thank you very much.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36326725/Arma/Arma%203%20Alpha.rar

There are the files. I start Arma3 alpha and at the "loading profile options" part of the splash "Arma 3 Alpha has stopped working".

Last time I played succesfully was with .21 geforce drivers and non-patched alpha.

After updating both drivers and alpha, it stopped working. I have tried reinstalling alpha, deleted my profile and configs and rolled back my drivers.

EDIT: I have solved the problem by reinstalling both steam and arma3. running with .21 drivers

I just had the same problem with the physicX_86.dll file, and submitted my report as well, but I think they have enough, because so many people have experienced the same problem, if they can't find the problem, it's probably one of those problems they already know about, but can't do nothing about, so they keep asking for more information. Whenever Arma 3 crashes, the .rpt file should automatically be uploaded to their end. That's a given, with no excuses as to why this feature is not built into the dev process. If they play multiplayer, then they have the rpt files as well, the problem is obviously not happening to them when they play each other, or they are simply ignoring all of their report files, to fix only the ones WE complain about, am I getting warmer? This is not just something that happens to us stupid gamers. I'm running an ATI 5800 series, and it's either some DirectX component failing, or it's the PhysicX_86.dll failing, or its one of their "alpha" memory managers. But these are the key components they MUST fix, before we can help them fix the non essentials! That's their job, not ours! And if they can't see the problems on their end its because they're not looking for them, because they know it won't work in the end product no matter how much we complain about it during the Alpha Stage. They have bugs from Flashpoint, Arma 1 and 2 that have never been fixed, and I'm afraid this may just be another one of those things standing in our way, until they get serious on their end!

LOL ...they would be flooded with RPT files Harold... I'm not being funny here. This is why the devs ask for you to search for a topic before you post.... so it's not duplicated.
I can see that you not pleased... neither was I when I couldn't get the game to work... but consider this ... there are many, many more people out there who are not getting crashes than who are ... prob less than one percent are getting crashes like this ... this logic says its your PC or PC set up.... if it wasn't then most people would be getting the same crashes... which is not the case.
So in an effort to help you I suggest you try all the solutions in this and similar posts.
Do you get crashes running any other software or games ?..
try a different video PCIe slot in yr mb (this fixed it for me)
try a different video card (also my card was dying )
so mine was a hardware problem

But 90% of problems are software related ...something conflicting with the game ... so partition or install just the game and windows another drive and the other minimum basic software you need like drivers... I bet you see the game work perfectly.

My game freezes with the "Arma 3 has stopped working" prompt while playing. Can be multiplayer, single player, editor previewing, etc. Modded, unmodded, makes no difference. Wanted to post this here as opposed to creating a completely different report though this seems slightly different as I've never had an issue getting past the startup screen. Here is my DxDiag information as well as all of the files from my local application data Arma 3 folder.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38077797/DxDiag.txt
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38077797/Arma%203%20Alpha.7z

Same problem here. I can play MP between 5 - 20 minutes before it freezes and when I start the task manager a message pops up saying "Arma 3 has stopped working". Looking at the log files I found the same problem as described by Shiverlock (sample of the relevant portion below). This happens since the latest (stable) update, no problems with the previous ones. Error occurred with both the latest normal and beta drivers for my graphics card (ATI HD 5850).

The content of my appdata folder with the data from multiple crashes can be found at: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2i4ifj4hncsc9yq/Arma%203%20Alpha.zip
