Also I've found that the closer the hit location is to the crew in a straight line the more damage is done
The vehicle's armor doesn't appear to have any additional protection against HE grenades.

The same thing happens with grenades as long as they are close enough to still kill the occupants of the vehicle, and it looks like the in-game blast damage doesn't have an additional attenuation with armor
