Microphone stops working after several minutes of gameplay when using USB sound card
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

Game Version number: 1.3.0.144
Modded?: No

Issue Description: After several minutes of joining a server, my microphone stops working in-game. Radio and proximity chat buttons still work, but no-one can hear anything I say. The microphone works perfectly on all other programs such as Discord or Steam. It is plugged into a USB sound card (Creative Sound BlasterX G6). Unplugging and re-plugging the sound card restores functionality for a few more minutes before breaking again.

I hope this issue is fixed soon, playing the game without a mic is frustrating.

I have the exact same issue, and same sound card (Creative Sound BlasterX G6). If i change the quality of the microphone within the card it will work for a few minutes and then it will stop working again.

Geez, if you need any further details let us know. I keep monitoring this thread about our issue. I am afraid it has something to do with the sound card capabilities, i think even with the lowest sample rate the game cannot handle it unless it has something to do with the driver privileges within the game.

Here is a screenshot with the available sample rates of the sound card.

I have also discovered that toggling app microphone access in Windows privacy settings will temporarily fix the problem too.

Any positive feedback on this?

Hello everyone.
Can you please provide us client logs from the occurrence of the issue? Specificaly console.log but the whole session folder would be ideal.

Hello Geez,

Could you provide the path?

I am unable to attach the error.log file as it trips the website's security blocks, but these are some logs from a session last week.
For Prototype, you can find these logs in Documents/My games/ArmaReforger/logs.
If there is anything else you need, please let me know.

Here is mine as well.

Hello again.
We would recommend using a adapter /most of the headphones have it) to split the mic input and headphones output.

Second advice would be to disable native Realtek Audio and HD Audio devices in-case external DAC driver has issue with identifying inputs in different applications.

Geez

Hi,

I am using a Corsair Virtuoso Pro Open-Back Gaming Headset - Carbon [CA-9011370-EU] and the cable actually splits the two inputs.

Now, for recording it doesn't really make sense to disable the Realtek driver because as you can see in recording devices at least in my case there are no Realtek inputs at all.

Arma Reforger is the only software/game i ever had any issues with my microphone. The game should have an in-game option to choose input and output device instead of looking Windows default devices. Maybe that way it wouldn't get "confused" or whatever is wrong with the game.

Can we get some more info of what Arma Reforger codecs and sample rates is capable of? Most of my teammates tell me that my voice is breaking so input is going in but something is wrong with the conversion maybe? (Analog-Digital)

Any specific .exe we should run as Admin? Because Sound Blaster Command certainly runs as Admin.

BTW really important, i'm on Windows 11 not Windows 10 like this thread says.

Hello,

Unfortunately, I have already undertaken the steps you have mentioned. I have disabled the Realtek audio chip in my motherboard's BIOS, and disabled all other input sources except for my microphone in Windows sound settings.
My headphones and microphone are already separated, so there should be no conflict there either. I believe this is an issue with the game and not my hardware setup, having removed all possible sources of confusion.
