Feature Request: Resource-Free Base Planning and Structure Placement in Arma Reforger

Current Issue:
In the current base-building system, placing a structure on the ground reserves resources for it immediately. This system creates several challenges for players:

  • Players must repeatedly travel between building structures and the FOB to accumulate enough resources for the next placement, significantly slowing down gameplay.
  • The inability to plan an entire base layout without sufficient resources makes it difficult to create coherent, organized bases.
  • Players cannot predict how placing one structure will limit space for future placements, often leading to inefficient designs or the need to wait for resources to experiment.
  • Collaborative base-building efforts are hindered, as players cannot effectively coordinate without a shared vision of the complete base layout.

Proposed Solution:
Decouple structure placement from resource availability by allowing players to freely place and plan all buildings, structures, and assets without reserving resources. Resources should only be consumed when players actively begin constructing a structure with a shovel. Resource usage should then scale proportionally to the percentage of the building completed.

Benefits of This Change:

  • Improved Gameplay Flow: Eliminates the need for constant back-and-forth trips to gather resources during the planning phase, speeding up base-building.
  • Enhanced Base Design: Enables players to plan cohesive, well-organized bases, taking into account space constraints and future expansions.
  • Encourages Team Collaboration: Allows players to visualize and agree on a complete base layout before committing resources, improving teamwork.
  • Flexibility and Experimentation: Players can experiment with different layouts and designs without risking resource loss or waiting for stockpiles to build up.

Implementation Suggestion:
Introduce a "Planning Mode" where players can place ghost structures (transparent placeholders) without resource costs. These placeholders would only transition into resource-bound structures once a player begins physical construction. This mode could also include a "Delete Placeholder" option for easy adjustments.
This change would make base-building in Arma Reforger more efficient, strategic, and enjoyable for players, aligning with the game’s focus on teamwork and tactical planning.
