Headphone Sidetone (monitor) Active at All Times
Need More Info, NormalPublic

Description

Game Version number: 1.2.1.127
Modded?: No

As soon as Arma Reforger experimental is launched, user headphones immediately activate sidetone. This means that the user can hear their voice through their own headphones immediately at game launch.

The current released version of Arma Reforger (non-experimental) only activated sidetone when the proximity talk (T key) or radio talk (caps lock) keys are pressed in game.

This feature in the current version (non-experimental) is highly beneficial for users, so they are immediately aware when they are hot mic’ing over a radio or proximity chat.

This audio feature functions as a faster cue to the user than constantly looking over to the left of the screen for the proximity or radio broadcasting icon.

Hello ThoughtLanguage.
Can you please provide more information in regards to your hardware? Especially headphones/mic models.
We were unable to produce the issue on PC on Experimental 1.2.1.127, unless you enable Listening to Mic in Windows settings, which are not related to the reforger game.

I have Logitech G Pro X headphones:

Utilizing G Hub software:

https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/innovation/g-hub.html

Inside the software you have an option called sidetone which is different than windows monitor.

Instead of routing through windows using the microphone monitor which produces microphone lag and a delayed sound when monitoring your voice spoken into the microphone, it’s an instantaneous audio monitor for what is spoken into the microphone.

I believe most gaming headsets have an external usb sound card like this model and company, that you plug the 3.5mm cable into. I believe this takes care of this processing, or lack of processing, to remove latency, avoiding the computer’s sound card all together. (I could be completely wrong but that’s the only thing that would make sense in terms of how little latency there is in this form of audio monitoring.)

It’s strange that the current release it works great and in the experimental it reacts differently.

Some additional steps if you guys have access to any Logitech headphones (which most likely wouldn’t be possible for you and your team to have all companies gear on hand)

  • Set up sidetone in G hub, but quit out of G hub before doing anything with Reforger. Launch Reforger like normal. This prevents the sidetone from being live immediately due to G hub running as well, which is also a problem.

It’s a stretch, but again it’s pretty awesome to have a microphone linked up with your game as if the left bumper (T or caps lock keys) are an audio monitor to keep you aware of when the other team can hear you.
