Dayz Frostline hard-crashes my PC, monitor goes blank, can't get any response via input, forced to reboot.
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I've tried to play Frostline 3 times now, and about 20-30 mins into each playthrough it crashes my PC, showing nothing on monitor, CTRL+ALT+DEL don't work, I have to reboot.
The PC tower does not feel too warm, and all the visual settings are on LOW, despite having a beast of a PC.

I uninstalled ALL my DayZ workshop mods and updated my graphics driver.
I have also verified the game files via steam.

hello Radicals27.
Just to specify, does this occur only on the frostline map? official servers or community?

Hi Geez, I just played vanilla Chernarusplus on official, for 45 minutes, no crash, exited fine. Seems to be just Frostline, crashed each time.

Thank you, if you switch back to frostline now on official, does it still crash? If so, can you try to verify the game data through Steam? (And make sure Steam cloud sync is disabled before doing so)

Good news! I went one futher and did the following:

  1. Uninstalled DayZ
  2. Deleted my C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Local\Dayz folder
  3. Reinstalled DayZ on C:\ (M2 HDD), was previously on my D:\ (A SSD but not M2)
  4. Went into my Nvidia control panel and 'reset' any profiles I had for Dayz.exe
  5. Kept the default in-game settings the same as default (didn't change any in game settings)

Played for 45 minutes no problem.

Actually that was a one-off, it crashed again... This time after about 15 minutes.
I can confirm that my GPU is not getting hot, I had a temp monitor open on another screen and the GPU was only ever max 60 degrees or so.

I am going to try running it with "-dx11" parameter, and force windowed mode, and to force logging, we'll see what happens.

OK I just played 2 sessions over 40 mins with the above settings, seems OK.

(i.e with "-dx11" parameter, and force windowed mode)
