Consider this a concise form of feedback from my time with DayZ Frostline and Sakhal as part of the creator early access event, I'll be breaking this up into sections for accessibility purposes.
First off, The Map itself
Aesthetically it looks and feels amazing, It captures that winter feel, while also having some more distinct biomes, snowy peaks, warm hot springs, and some more colourful trees, Larger cities, smaller towns, and other secrets inbetween!
Using boats to navigate to different islands, or even to swiftly attempt to return to friends on your same island feels lovely!
I really like the switch away from the relatively centrally located water wells on Chernarus, to the water springs, which are a bit more out of the way!
My first piece of feedback is a minor thing. I wish that the little, blue lines on the 2D map that indicate the location of a spring were a bit more pronounced, It took me some time to find them, and it came after a fair bit of squinting and moving my face right up to my screen to catch them. If this symbol was a bit more pronounced I think it would be a nice QOL change. (I cannot speak on the 3D map at this time, as I've not had a chance to really look at it)
Another piece of minor feedback was, I noticed around large rocks, specifically on the peaks of mountains, some AI (Some Wolves and some Deer) fell through the rocks and got stuck there. I believe one of the Wolves in question got out eventually, but I cannot speak for all of them.
I still have yet to experience all the map has to offer, but I've truthfully been blown away by all I've seen so far, locations feel very distinct, and while I still feel like I have a way to go before I could consider myself knowledgeable with the map, There's plenty of locations that have gripped me, and stuck with me!
My next section will focus on the environment, and difficulty
I'll start this off by saying I was quite pleasantly surprised by the difficulty on the map. Normally when I'm playing on officials, I can pretty much turn my brain off and still have no trouble surviving (Unless another player gets involved) I found the environment, (cold, and the unfamiliar area) a very refreshing challenge. Absolutely heightened by my lack of familiarity with the map, yet even when I returned to areas I was more familiar with I was kept on my toes.
One negative I felt however, was that, no matter how warm my clothing was, I would always have to stop, make a fire, and get the heatbuff before continuing. I think it would be nice if wearing all "High" or "Best" insulation clothing would keep you warm enough that you could comfortably roam. OF course if you're caught in a blizzard / at a high elevation /even during night time. that should encourage you to find shelter and dry off. But it did feel a bit tedious needing to stop every so often, despite my extremely warm clothing. I'm sure this would be offset by server owners by tweaking the temperature values however.
I'll speak briefly about the CLE (Central Loot Economy) Yet I'll emphasise again that I haven't been everywhere in this map yet
Overall the CLE felt pretty good, I feel I'm starting to get a sense of what spawns where.
It feels like there are different areas of the map which are best for particular items
EG: Head inland on the main island if you want to find long rifles, and some low-mid tier military
Head to the outlying landmass with the large military base if you're seeking mid-high tier military
It feels pretty good so far, Don't feel I can give any negative feedback based on what I've experienced!
Now I'll give some brief feedback about the running of the event. This isn't related to Sakhal / Frostline specifically, just the surrounding creator event, with the hope that any potential future events are run smoothly!
Myself and some others I spoke to did struggle to get to grips with Lurkit, and how it all worked, how key distribution was going to be handled. Once I got to grips with it, it worked like a charm, but some form of "How2Lurkit" could've been beneficial
I disliked that all of the servers were on the same hive. From Day one of the programme, I had a group I was running with, I wanted to play the map more, yet didn't want to run off miles away from my friends, and need to finagle my way back to them. I will concede this is a bit of a "First world problem" for lack of a better phrase, But I felt it worth noting regardless
I can understand having some servers on the hive, but I think having some of them on different hives would be a nice option, at least one per region.
I think that's all I have for now, If anything else springs to mind I'm sure I'll throw a comment on here, but it won't be long until Sakhal is in the hands of the masses
Apologies it's taken so long to get this feedback to you! I didn't want to rush it out and later learn I was totally wrong about a bunch of it!
