0xC0000005 - STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This is kind of strange. All the sudden ArmA 3 it taking forever to load. The other day it froze for the first time. Then I get this access violation error when I exit sometimes. Nothing has changed on the system except I had subscribed to a steam workshop mod called CompoT for placing objects in the editor because I thought it would show me previews of assets that didn't show up like most of the other assets do. But then I realized it was an old mod and removed and uninstalled it from the mod menu.

The other thing that changed was I installed a new Unreal Engine 5.4 editor version though the Epic Games Launcher. Windows virus kicked in and blocked access to some of the files, so I had to allow it again from the "Windows Security Protection history screen". I'm not sure windows changed a permissions on my drive from that.
It seems I was able to fix the slow loading time by going into steam and clearing the download cache and also did a game verify. So its loading faster again, but I'm not sure why the access errors.

There was a apearhead 1944 update recently, I'm not sure if it's related. Nothing has changed on my computer as far as hardware or drivers. Everything is the same.

Another thing regarding the windows virus. According to Epics forums, these virus blocks are false flags. Epic has created some files for the Unreal engine that mimic the same behavior as malware, but they are safe according to them. But they recommend disabling the windows AV when you install the editor.

By the way, the game is called "Arma 3", lowercase second A. and it's also not "Armed Assault 3"

Thank you for that freeze, I have seen it a couple times but didn't see how it happened. I got that now. You probably tabbed out of the game there, and it froze during that.
The crash you had, was during game exit. We have already fixed that one for the next game update, and its already available on profiling branch.

The freeze is now also fixed, but it will not make it to 2.18 game update, it will be available on profiling branch.
And the crash was already fixed.
