Audio problem
Need More Info, NormalPublic

Description

Hello. I just got the game DayZ a couple days ago on steam and was very excited to start playing this game, so I loaded up a server. I was about 5 minutes in or so and the audio just went completely out. I checked and tested my headset (HyperX) and it worked fine everywhere else, YouTube, other games and even in the windows settings audio test. I looked up guides and it seemed people have had the same issue, but none of their techniques helped me. I tried a different official server the next day (today) and about 1 minute into my survival journey my audio went out again. I looked through all my settings in game and found nothing that helped the audio issues so maybe I missed something? But I'm also disappointed because I wanted to get the full experience but now I'm gonna have to wait till a patch comes out. Hopefully you can pinpoint the issue so I can enjoy this game again. Thanks- Ian

Within the first couple of minutes my audio pops and then there's no sound. Although, when I close and re-launch the game there's sound again, but then a few minutes later it cuts out so the same issue.

Hello cerealkilr.
Do you unplug/plug your headphones while playing by any chance? Or your speakers?

I do not unplug my audio, although I’ve tried unplugging my headset re-plugging it in after the issue came about. I’ve tried a new server, and no luck. Something I tried last night was some apple ear buds that I had laying around in my room. I plugged those in to the audio jack in the top front panel of my pc, and surprisingly my audio never cut out for the 30 or so minutes I played. It is annoying though because my headset is more comfortable and has a longer cord. I was thinking that my headset could be getting blocked by the anti-cheat but I couldn’t figure it out. Also, I loaded up the game with and without discord in the background to see if that was an issue and it didn’t help.

Does your headset use any specific software? Also it is possible your headset might be faulty if the ear buds do not produce the issue.

My headset does not use software but it does have a controller hub type thing where you can lower/higher the audio or turn on/off surround sound. So a USB goes into the back of my pc that runs into the mini controller hub, then that plugs into my headset. I think I know where the issue is. In the controller hub that I mentioned before, if I detach my headset from it and just use the 3.5 mm jack in the front panel of my pc it works fine. So I think the game thinks that my little controller hub is cheating I guess? It’s possible my headset is faulty but I think it’s very unlikely because that would mean that other audio sources also wouldn’t work and I’ve had no other issues with anything thing else.

Hello cerealkilr.
One of reddit users had experienced similar issue with HyperX headset as well. Can you check the following?

I've found the cause to be due to using a certain sound channel in Windows. If I am using the channel "Headset Earphone" I have this issue. If I change the sound channel in Windows over to "Speakers" (headset) it works just fine for me. Hope this helps.
