VoIP incompatible microphone
Reviewed, UrgentPublic

Description

I purchased a brand new, third party mic for playing DayZ. It doesn't work in Dayz. It works everywhere else on Xbox.

The game is detecting my mic. The mic symbol is lighting up in-game when I talk however, my voice cannot be heard in game.

I have tried all the "fixes" I can find online including joining and leaving a party chat multiple times. Restarting the game. Deleting my save file. Clearing my alternate Mac address.

Yesterday Zesty Polvo tried to stream on Xbox and he had the same issue.

I believe it's a compatibility issue with some third party headsets. I'm open to trying any other "fix" possible. I know this issue is annoying a lot of people and I'm certainly not going to purchase another headset just to find that it too will not work on Dayz.

Open to any and all suggestions. Otherwise I would like to suggest you please, please fix this one.

Hello Doomed_VII.
Unfortunately there is nothing I could suggest. If you can confirm this occurs only with specific headsets, can you please let us know? (For example if different type of headset did work for you).
Regards,
Geez

Hello Geez,

I really appreciate the prompt response. I'm sorry if my frustration tells in my report.

I've spent hours googling and trying things. Found numerous threads and posts about this issue. The vast majority seem to have been fixed by deleting the save file but for some the problem persists.
Hence I drew the conclusion that it was a compatibility issue.

I'm sorry most of my evidence for that is 3rd hand.

I would be happy to help in any way I can because I would really like this resolved but I only have access to the one mic.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Best,
Alex

Update: I looked for a link to Zesty Polvos stream from last night but he's removed it. It was such a disaster because he experienced this issue. He tried the party chat / game chat "fix", unplugging, restarting and then he gave up and ended the stream.

Is that it then? A quick Google and you can see people have been complaining about this for years. It's become a running joke.

Might be worth you purchasing a couple of microphones yourself and getting your game to work. I'm sure they'll pay for themselves if you're successful

It is an issue we do not reproduce on our end. Without reproducing the issue, applying any fixes is extremely difficult. Thank you for understanding.

Apologies again for leaking my frustration. Just seems like you're telling me it's tough luck and I should get another mic. I'm happy to help in some other way. I have free time I'm willing to offer, having already spend a significant amount of it troubleshooting this bug.

This afternoon I logged on and my voice is now working in game.

I appreciate intermittent bugs are hard to pin down, particularly if they're only affecting a small number of people or at least, only a small number of people are complaining about them.

I don't know what else to tell you. Everyone in the community seems to be aware that there are issues with game chat. It's clearly off-putting to new players and some kind of fix needs to be implemented.

This afternoon I logged on and my voice is now working in game.

Was there any change that comes to mind, which could have resulted in the microphone starting to work?

The only change I can conceive of is that my console has turned off in-between sessions. I did try that the other day with no success.

Its difficult for the player affected to tell. It appears to the player that they are broadcasting their voice but nobody can actually hear it on the server. This afternoon I used a megaphone to test and indeed it did work.

Last night during the stream it was the same for Zesty. It appeared he was broadcasting his voice but nobody could hear him in the game.

I do understand these anecdotes do nothing to help and I'm sorry again for venting frustration. I'll write back if I'm able to collect any kind of useful data if it happens again
