Improvised shelter deployment issues
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

If the chosen location is unsuitable to build an improvised shelter, then the shelter kit should not allow me to place it there. For example, after a long time struggling to find a place to deploy the kit, I begin adding sticks to the kit. Once I have met all requirements, I begin the animation to "build improvised shelter." The animation completes but the shelter does not get built.

If the location is unsuitable for a shelter then the kit shouldn't allow me to place it. This same problem manifests itself with fences and watchtowers, too. The issue is that it isn't anywhere near as frustrating to disassemble a fence or watchtower kit and try again.

Steps To Reproduce

Find a location where there is no clear place for the shelter to be deployed. Next, manipulate the tent kit until you find a location it can be deployed. Add 50 short sticks and 4 long sticks then try to construct the tent. Nothing happens after the animation completes.

Additional Information

This has been an issue for entirely too long with kits.

As I remember that if you want to complete improvised shelter, you need to step back a little bit. Maybe the finished improvised shelter has bigger collision than the frame.

This is happening to me too OP, it’s a bug that you can work through. When you are prompted to build the shelter and it doesn’t work, reposition your character and try again. I’ve had to do it up to 5x to get it to actually construct

Hello fundogthrillionaire.
If you can start the placing animation but you do not finish building the shelter, the issue is that your character stands too close to the shelter when building it, rather than the location being unsuitable.
The way to resolve this is not to stand so close to the shelter when building it.
