Dayz PC STABLE (recent patch 1.23) crash during different moments in the game (Details below!)
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

Hello everyone,

as mentioned above, my game keeps crashing during different moments in the game that, unfortunately, cannot be reproduced. The most consistent I was able to pinpoint it is a crash closely after starting the game (<=10 minutes), but this is not reliable information, since it does not always happen that way. The crash report I attached was such an instance.
More information that I can give about what my computer does when DayZ crashes:
The fans do not seem to be running at all times, but as soon as the game crrashes, the fan starts running almost max speed. I have been checking the temperatures and percentages of my CPU and GPU both in terms of load and temperature.
The highest temperature of the CPU (i7-6700K, 4x4Ghz) while playing DayZ is around 76, with a 90-95% load (never 100!), the GPU runs the game between 70-76*C at around 90% load (Nvidia Geforce GTX 980). It does not seem correlated to the crashes, as the load and temperatures are sometimes low when it crashes.
Now to the crashes themselves:
Right before the crashes, the game freezes for a splitsecond. Very quickly after (<2 seconds) the music and sound of the game stops and the freezeframe persists, until my Computer lets me know that DayZ has stopped working and is not responding anymore. I shut it down and restart the game.
This has happened during random moments in the game that I cannot pinpoint. Sometimes it runs smoothly for 4 hours before it crashes, sometimes (but very rarely) it never crashes at all. This is mostly when I am running through the world. I have no experienced crashes that might have reproducability, for example after I picked up an item, opened the inventory, things like these. On the last crash, I was running on the outskirts towards Elektro (north of it) towards the west along some train tracks. In the past, the game also crashed after running through thick woods, after sitting completely still for a little bit.
I have read online about the issue. There was something about the drive being overloaded or that farming on the server might have an impact on the crash ( apparently a persistent bug that keeps happening).
The crash persists beyond the last patch, the crashes were there before the last major update and they kept happening now.
I'm very much at a loss and would love nothing more than to play without crashes, so any help at all is appreciated. I know that this is not much to go off of, but I'm hoping someone can help anyway.
Thank you!

Additional Information

I'm playing on servers with a friend together, who does not seem to experience any crashes whatsoever. It makes me think it's my hardware (the system is quite old), but I'm not having similar issues with other games. DayZ seems to be the only game that consistently crashes.

Hello KillInHeaven.
Unfortunately there is no crash dump generated - could it have been a freeze rather than a crash?

hey there,
well, it usually says "DayZ stopped working" and it has never recovered. When I move to close the game, it shows me the "Dayz has closed unexpectedly"-screen. I can try to let it run a bit on the next crash, but I'm pretty sure the game will not recover from that. So maybe it's a Freeze and then a crash?

Hello KillInHeaven.
Yes this sounds more like a freeze, in such case there will not be a dump generated which wont tell us much about what is happening.
Can you try the following?:

Verify the game data through Steam and delete the configuration files when prompted to do so (make sure Steam cloud sync is disabled for DayZ before doing this) - you can also delete the config files manually by clearing the C:\Users\*username*\Documents\DayZ folder

Hello,

I tried this, I will monitor for a couple of days and see where come out. Will get back to you as soon as I know whether this did anything!

Thanks!

Well, didn't need to wait long. It crashed again, same pattern, same problem, I was in the end sequence of a vault.
What else can I provide for you guys to help with this issue?

I also finally got a code on the crash message, which is the 0000000001 unable to INIT DXGI thing. I've been reading up online about it, launch option -cpucount does not seem to fix the issue.
Other options online include reinstalling the OS (not an option at the moment, but I'll get around to it). Any ideas?

Hello KillInHeaven.
Like you mentioned, reinstalling OS could help. Also clean installation of all your drivers - make sure there are no corrupted files or outdated installations.
