Game Crash - Generator and Construction Lights
Need More Info, UrgentPublic

Description

Game Crashes everytime I turn on a generator with minimum 3 construction lights in a Grabin base at night in the apartments.

It seems like it happens more if the lights collide / intersect with each other.

This happens to me quite often on PS5 and also to my girlfriend on PS4.

Some other players don't seem to have it so often. I think you need to be close to the light sources for it to crash very often.

Steps To Reproduce

1 - Connect 3 construction lights to a generator and turn it on at night in the apartments of grabin.

2 - Stay looking at the lights and see it crash on PS5 and sometimes on PS4.

3 - Probability increases when player is closer to light sources, and when this lights are close to each other and the lights results collide with each other.
Also connect 4 lights instead to see it crash more often.

Additional Information

Weirdly enough, this doesn't seem to happen often in every console or player. Perhaps this is solely because the crashed player is the owner of the lights and the one who activates them?

Or maybe it's the fact that I'm using an SSD on both consoles. PS4 and PS5.

this happened to me and my friend as well in our private server we couldnt figure out the cause we thought it was realted to the xmas light bug fix in the last patch so we pulled all those but it was becoming morning in game so we turned off the generators too.

while there is s bug report for this id like to mention lights from multiple directions seem to cause a like un textured version of the world its like all gray and flickers

2 lights seem to work relatively fine. When it comes to 3 lights the crash is certain. Also, consider that this lights are in a moderate base in Grabin official server.

I wonder if it is a GPU problem, RAM or VRAM, but it should be fixable as any other light sources seem to work fine, like flashlights, torches, etc.

Also! Sometimes the game crashes even without turning on the lights, just by moving around and trying to setup an off construction light.

The fact that some people on PS4 seem to not crash so often is curious. And that some people don't seem to crash often at all.

Hello Geez,

Server storage?

This is on official first person server 2074 on PS4 Pro and PS5.

thank you, in that case we will check it ourselves

Thank you, last time we tried to light up 2 construction lights, we had like 5 or 6 glow sticks and we lit up one box of fireworks.

The game crashed for everyone and nobody could join and watch the fireworks.

It seems like there is a limitation on how many dynamic light sources can be lit in the proximity of the player.

It also doesn't seem to be exclusively a problem to construction last lights, however, the construction lights seem to be the most problematic perhaps because of its intensity.

What makes me wonder and confused, is that my game crashed sometimes while interacting and choosing the placement of the construction lights. ( with the lights off ).

One small detail is that even if we look away from the lights we still crash. The game doesn't even lag, it just crashes as if it ran out of RAM or VRAM.

Hope it helps, this could become seriously degrading if people start abusing.

Not to mention I would like to actually watch some fireworks with my friends while we dance and party :)

This happens anytime there are too many light sources near each other. It usually only crashes at night and affects the PS5 over the ps4 and ps4 pro leaps and bounds more. The ps5 runs DayZ better in every way except when it comes to lighting at night for some reason. Me and everyone in our server have the exact same issue no matter the server you play on. And it's any lightsource, fires, glowsticks, head torches, flash lights.

I think a quick workaround would be to implement some kind of LOD for light sources. Where only a certain quantity of light are rendered within a given radius to the player.

Of course something like that applied to the view of the player instead of the area radius would be better.

As it is now, it doesn't matter if you look at the lights or not, the game will crash when you are positioned within in the radius of those lights.

It is indeed complex because if certain lights don't render then you might not see an enemy. But as it is now I think it is a very bad and exploitive way to crash the game.

What other info are you looking for? Would love to help get this solved as it is easily the most frustrating thing on PS5 right now.
