Description

Personally, the new items introduced to 1.22 have been great and I think they were deinitely a missing item muched needed to cosmetic side of DayZ cause FashionZ.

However I feel there are some minor inconsistencies with the new backpacks, they all offer different themes for players to dictate how they want to dress but there's needs to be some small changes in the slots available. The high end loot pool for backpacks include bags of varying sizes such as Hunting Backpack being 63 slots up to the Mountain Backpack being 80 slots and the largest backpack, the Field Backpack being 90 slots. Anything above 63 I personally see as being the upper end of the loot pool with the middle ground being the 42 slot backpacks including the Assault & Hiking backpacks. The lower end backpacks which I would consider the new ones I think need to be decreased in slize slot to add more gameplay focus on "I need more room so I'll take this backpack" as majority of the size slots for them are 35. I understand the difference between gameplay balance and the actual asset model size of the backpacks and I think the focus should be more on gameplay balancing side so I will list some suggestions.

  • New Drysack Bag being 20 slots is a good starting point for the low tier of backpacks and I feel as if the School Backpack should join this with both of them being a 20 slot (5x4) capacity with the possiblity of this bag being increased in spawnrate as I don't see it too often when I spawn.
  • New Sling Bag should be just a tiny bit better than the Drysack Bag and School Backpack with roughly a size decrease to either 24 (6x5) or 25 (5x5).
  • New Canvas Bag should be decreased to fill in the gap between the lower slot bag and the higher civilian end of 42 slots. A size slot of either 28 (7x4 or flipped) or 30 (6x5 or flipped) would be a good starting point.
  • New Leather Duffel Bag should remain close to the Canvas Backpack as they are similar so a size of 32 (8x4 or flipped) or the 30 (6x5 or flipped) instead of the Canvas Bag would be ideal.
  • New Miltary Pouch is a good introduction into the mid tier of backpacks, I think this should be a bit better Utility buttpack so this should remain as it is with 35 slots (7x5).

The above is the feedback on the new bags added but now I will provide feedback on the current existing backpacks. I feel there can be more variety in the slot sizes of backpacks as most commonly sit at 42 or 63 slots.

  • In the old DayZ there was a key difference between the Burlap Backpack and the Fur Backpack, the Fur Backpack offered an additional 5 more slots (from memory) which promoted the idea of a player going out of their way to hunt a boar and I think this should definitely return. Keep the Fur Backpack (including Courier counterpart) as it is but alter the Burlap Backpack to be less so a size slot of 35 (7x5) with the Courier counterpart being 28 (7x4) or 25 (5x5).
  • Hiking Backpack to be changed to 40 ((8x5) as I think it should be a bit smaller than the Assault Backpack but this also offers a chance of horizontal or vertical number being 8 which no backpack currently has.
  • Assault Backpack to remain as it is the perfect middle ground.
  • Combat Backpack to changed to 56 (8x7) as it is too similar to the Tactical Backpack which should be the 2nd largest before the Field Backpack so this change would offer a progression in loot size increase.
  • Drybag Backpack is one of the most useful backpacks in the game as is can be burried to create a stash but I think it should be decreased to counter how very strong this can be. A size of 54 (9x6) so it still offers the ability tto store 2 large weapons but also makes it slightly smaller than the Combat Backpack.
  • Hunter Backpack & Tactical Backpack to remain at 63 slots as these are good backpacks to work towards as seeing the Tactical Backpack in use more would be nice to see as most of the time the Combat Backpack is taken.
  • Leather Backpack should be decreased to 56 (8x7) as a craftable backpack should personally never be as good as the civilian/military counterpart.
  • Mountain & Field Backpack to remain the same.

I know this isn't a major issue or even an minor one but I feel as if these changes would create more unique items and make a lot of gameplay choices adding to the purpose of player choice with players dictating how they wish to survive and also adds a layer of progression with craftables, civilian and military. A lot of the backpacks should be decreased in size to add uniqueness to each bag but also to alter up the gameplay possibilities, do you need more space? Do you want to be more camoflauged. So basically there is a sense of progession shown be below:

  • The civilian type of bags/backpacks go from the School Backpack and the new bags to a Hiking Backpack and then change to a Hunting Backpack or a Mountain Backpack for more size.
  • Someone who likes crafting backpacks will go from a Drysack Bag to Burlap Bakpack to possibly stumbling upon a boar and noticing they can break down their current backpack to create a larger one and then finally work to find the stuff possible to create a Leather backpack.
  • Military backpacks will start with the Utility Buttpack or the new Military Pouch up to the Assault Backpack then to a Combat Backpack with the Tactical Backpack being a good sized bag before attaining the Field Backpack which currently in 1.22 is hard to get which is good.

If you want to here any further thoughts about this from me, ask away and I will provide :)
Thank you

Yeah I like these changes

  1. More incentive to craft different bags
  2. Better balance on "civilian bags"
