My microphone is not recognized by DayZ. DayZ is the only application that has this problem.
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

DayZ does not recognize any sound from my microphone. When pressing push-to-talk or using voice activation, the microphone symbol appears, but no sound comes from my character. (There are no "sound waves" appearing from the microphone symbol when I talk, and I had a friend confirm that they cannot hear me.) This problem has not been fixed with extensive troubleshooting.

(Rated severity as "major" because communication is an integral part of a game like DayZ)

Additional Information

I have tried many fixes from across forums and videos. Below is a description of my "fixes" and possibilities going forward. (These are copied from a reddit post I made describing the issue) My microphone is a standalone Blue Yeti and is the only mic enabled at all in my sound settings.

Things I have tried (that have NOT worked)

  • Mic is set as default recording device
  • Mic is the only audio device
  • Clean reinstall of graphics and audio drivers
  • Verifying integrity of game files in Steam
  • Reinstalling DayZ
  • Restarting my PC
  • Using a different mic, or more than one mic
  • (Win10) For DayZ specifically, mic is set as the input (with headset as the output) in "app volume and device preferences"
  • Disabling microphone software (Blue Sherpa/Logitech GHub)
  • Resetting voice settings on Discord
  • Setting up my microphone in Steam settings
  • Changing which USB port my mic is plugged in on my PC
  • Running only DayZ (no other programs like Discord open in the background)
  • Swapping PTT to voice activation, and swapping keybinds for PTT away from the default caps lock keybind.

Other comments:

  • DayZ is not included specifically in my Microphone Privacy settings in Win10. A bunch of other apps like Steam, Discord, and other games are included, but not DayZ. None of the above fixes have affected this.
  • I have not tried reinstalling Win10, but I would like to avoid this measure if at all possible.

Hello GardenStone.
Was the OS initially installed from a clean slate or did you upgrade your Windows through the upgrade feature? As there was a user who had this issue and it was seemingly caused by using the upgrade feature as it possibly incorrectly transfers some files related to the drivers.

Hey, thanks for replying.
I installed Windows 10 directly when I built this PC, so it was a clean installation. I've never had a previous version of the OS, just Win10.

I'm having the exact same issue. I've tried to switch microphones and all that.

I've noticed other people from this forum and on other social media have a similar problem, even with many hours in the game without issue, then they suddenly & recently lose access to voip like this. As a relatively new player, I don't have the countless hours in DayZ to speak for this, but could this have been broken for certain players in a recent update?

Edit: to clarify, it doesn't seem to be a huge amount of players reporting this - it's only been a few others that I've personally seen while digging for this. I'm a little worried it's a bit of an obscure/specific problem.

Just to resolve this: I did a reinstall of Windows 10 and my issue seems to be fixed. I guess what was said earlier regarding some driver-related files was messing with my audio, even though I hadn't upgraded my OS.

That said, I this problem is solved. Thanks guys

I've just fixed this after NONE of the things you listed worked for me too. What fixed it was setting my audio card (Motu M2) Loopback Mix as default. So it's basically picking my voice by internally 'listening' to the computer. I'm aware it might be an option very specific to my audio card but I hope it might help with some further troubleshooting possibilities ✌️

  • This solution still feels like a mystery to me, if anyone could have an idea on what's going on and what could make the regular input work again please let us know!
  • Also GPT suggested that the DayZ reshader might been creating some conflict with last update, even if it sounds counterintuitive being a visual enhancer..wyt?
