Description

It's been said that you not gonna concentrate on weapons that much this year as you did before, and that is OK (but don't give up on it completely. I mean the last year you were concentrated on weapons, at least it was one of your priorities, but still you released other things aswell). I just wan't to highlight the problems that game arsenal has atm (in my opinion ofc).

  1. Dead long range sniping. You can snipe within ~400-500m with .308/x54R , but once you cross that distance point the best you can do just knock the person down (if you're lucky ofc), in most of the times he(she) will only get some % of bullets damage + some shock amount, that isn't enough to knock him(her) down, and just will get away (hide or run away). So the only way you can get him(her) from afar (>500m) is to shoot in the head, which technically says "son, either you have to be a war veteran hardcore sniper and hit the head from more that 500m, or don't even think about of taking the sniper rifle ". I don't think cranking the calibers damage will solve it, as within 500m it will be even more lethal ( .308 can kill a player without armour in ~250-300m with a single bullet). So maybe the higher caliber (like .338), extremely rare ofc. Or have mercy and bring some other one-shot sniper, like M107 in Arma2 Dayz mod. Make it almost unusable within less that 200m (longer bullet reload time or something). Anyway, doesn't have to be the way I see it, but long range sniping needs to be brought back to life somehow.
  1. Lacking of a marksman rifle with a rail mount for optic to cover 300-800m range in sniping (like SR25 or M110 or m16 with picatinny rail)
  1. No heavy weapons. I mean we already have almost complete variety of weapons like pistols, smg's, shotguns, semi auto shotguns, carabines, assault rifles, hunting sniper rifles, even 40mm launcher and mines/claymores/explosives. Special thanks for the last ones, these open so much more scenarions for gunfights, and I know we could have not seen those at all in the first place, so yea, it is great. But if we have all that, why give up on machineguns? I mean we already crossed the line with m79, and if somebody told me then that "hey, they gonna release M79 this update", I would call that person crazy, 'cause I don't think that anybody thought that you would break not even the last line, but the line behind that line.
  1. Minor weapons bugs (like M79 unloades complete unused round, AUG prone anim issue, Izh18 bullet, Scout scope, SKS in the air round and some others).

Anyway, this may only be the way that I see it, If enybody of you have other visions that is great, feel free to add the stuff that you'd like to see or to be changed/tweaked.

If there was only 1 gun they will ever add again "let's hope not" I would want a .30-06 M1 Garand C or D model those models use a scope. With en bloc clip, to spice a update like that up bring back sks / mosin stripper clip, and if feeling very spicy add magnum and double barrel shotty speed loaders back.

Reasoning for M1 Garand, there is no western forces semi auto only rifle in game now but eastern forces have sks and vsd "not fair jokingly"

If feeling extra extra spicy a full auto .22lr smg like civilian hk416 pistol variant shortest barrel, but this is too modern for game and without modification hk416 not fully auto anyway so I suggest,

The American 180 .22 full auto comes in short barrel, long barrel with or without stock too




As for a powerful long range rifle I have no idea or suggestions and JerseyD911 has covered that well.

I should also note .30-06 vs .308 at range beyond 400-500m to touch on original subject by JerseyD911 and why .30-06 just might be that perfect round for DayZ. Of course it's just a game though because IRL good luck hitting anything past 400-500m with a M1"D" Garand 2.2X M84 scope.

The .308 Winchester has slightly more drop at long range than the .30-06 Springfield, owing to its slightly lower (around 30 metres per second (100 ft/s)) muzzle velocity with most bullet weights.

Zombie can hold up to 3 bullets from SVD on 550m distance, unarmed player - same, and that is 7,62x54R (3rd biggest caliber after 40mm and .308)

SVD not a sniper, it is more like marksman rifle, so this result can be considered as satisfactory, but I believe there should be more powerful caliber for long range sniping (800-1200m), like .338 or .50

Just edited smdi a little, but original rvmat was used (only with rerouted dt map directory to DZ folder). Look at it, A2 model, 10+ years old, 1024x512 res only (!!!!), and non of those facts fades her beauty. Dame, it looks amazing. The guy who created the model and textures back then is a true wizard.
