I figured out the issue.

I was Holding my mouse button to trigger, which crafted short sticks.

There is no prompt to craft short sticks so I thought I was triggering the bear trap.

@Geez Technically this ticket was named wrong since the issue was understood wrong.

Should I create another or reopen this with updated title?

Issue: No prompt for Splitting sticks with bear trap. Long press results in split sticks.
