Currently GMs are voted in and out only through majority vote. This has resulted in several problems:
- There may be no more new GMs when needed if not enough votes are made. Sometimes there may be no GM after one leaves or is removed because a majority vote is never reached.
- Trolls/disruptors may organize and kick a GM through a popular vote. This can result in no GM on the server.
- Trolls/disruptors vote in their own GMs to troll/disrupt other players on the server. This is a disaster regardless of whether there are existing non-troll/disruptor GMs or not.
The request is in three parts:
- to give existing GMs authority to appoint one other GM
- to give existing GMs superior veto power over both the addition and removal of GMs through player majority vote
- to give GMs their own voting system on the removal of other GMs, separate and superior to player voting
The first gives GMs the power to appoint trusted players which can quickly help distribute workload without waiting for majority player vote. They can also maintain continuity if they have to leave.
The second prevents GMs from being weakened by organized trolls/disruptors, and finding their efforts disrupted by organized trolls/disruptors. Only when the majority of players agree that a GM should be removed, and all the other GMs concur, will that GM be removed. If there is only one GM on a server, then they can choose to veto themselves so they can't be kicked. If players don't like the GM then they can join a different GM server. When there is no GM on a server, then one can be voted in by majority player vote.
The third allows GMs to initiate a majority GM vote to remove other GMs without player agreement. This is necessary to remove other GMs who have started disruptive behaviour with immediate impact.
The design of Game Master mode means that there is no point in playing on an GM server if there is no GM, or the GM is a troll/disruptor. However there is a need to give normal GMs space to bring their visions to fruition. The desired result of the request is that GMs are first held accountable to each other, then normal players. Giving players all the authority to remove GMs limits the GM's potential. That would be a shame as there is much room for this game mode to grow into.
