In VR, place one soldier and give him smokes.
Save mission to MPmissions. (Mine was called MP_smoke_test.VR.pbo) Launch hosted MP internet no mods. Load this mission.
Throw smoke grenade and is visible.
save&exit then resume the save without exiting Arma. (Smoke still visible).
Exit Arma game.
Launched Arma no mods. Start hosted MP server again. Resume from your save.
Smoke grenades no longer visible.
Video card is RTX 3090 FE. Tried drivers 497.09, 471.41 and 471.11. Made no difference. Not sure if it's the vid card, drivers or Arma3.
Event Timeline
So something to add...
...I "resumed" the mission, (Pilgrimage on Altis) and I didn't have smoke. I tossed my smoke grenade as usual, restarted/resumed and of course I had smoke. However!, I had a busted tank at a gas station getting fix by TPW and I noticed that I didn't have any TPW repair sound. The mechanic was there but no repairing sounds. The sounds did come back after I restarted/resumed, just like the smoke fix.
...Now stranger things have happened but I can't imagine TPW would have anything to do with the topic at hand. Who knows.
...@major-stiffy, you did say you tested with No Mods in the Pilgrimage thread sooo...TPW should be out of the equation.
agh, there's not many left who care about it anymore. Seems a shame since there are at least 13,000 players online at any one time. You might chat it up with the guys on Discord. There a few really commited members.

This is quite a bit of work (maybe a couple days), for VERY little gain.
(Compared with all players) very few use savegames, even fewer will have particles happening when they save.
And overall its more of a minor un-niceness rather than something game breaking.
So probably won't happen, not worth it for me
All particle affects are lost This bug never existed until lately so some Arma update broke it. Thanks for your reply anyway.
