Click Play when on DayZ in the steam library. Once the launcher starts, click either Play or Play without mods
From one day to the other my DayZ launches but somehow hangs, and when waiting long enough it consumes up to 18GB of RAM as I have noticed before I ended the task. Basically anytime I start the game, whether through your in build launcher or DayZSAlauncher, the game appears to start in windowed mode, with a completely black screen, and then just hangs consuming memory at a rate of 300MB every second or so. This happened without me installing any new drivers, programs or updates, when launching the game with or without mods, and obviously also regardless of which server I try to join. I have the error report available if requested.
Please help as I cannot play the game at all anymore.
Event Timeline
Hello Daxos1.
You can try the following:
Verify the game data through Steam and delete the configuration files when prompted to do so (make sure Steam cloud sync is disabled for DayZ before doing this) - you can also delete the config files manually by clearing the C:\Users\*username*\Documents\DayZ folder
Open the DayZ launcher
Select PARAMETERS menu
Select ALL PARAMETERS tab
scroll down and check "Bulldozer" parameter
Launch the game
Once launched, close the game
Uncheck bulldozer
Launch the game again without any parameters
Regards,
Geez
Thanks for your reply. I did all that, but the effect is the same. The game appears to launch but the screen stays black with a visible windowed mode and the DayZ name at the top left, and the minimize, maximize and close buttons on the top right. It then hangs there until I end task or close it, generating an error report.
I fixed it, but I still don't know what the issue was and I'm concerned file verification did not help. I downloaded and installed DayZ Experimental, launched that and it worked fine, so I knew my PC hardware was not causing the issue. I then copied the entire DayZ Experimental folder (not the config files in the users folder) into the DayZ folder and did a file verification and 169 files were reacquired. I launched the game, and everything works fine again.
