After some talks with some community members, I think I've refined my idea to a point where it should be made public for opinions, so here goes. Be nice to me!

Feature Request:
Scope Zeroing.

What is it?:
Anyone who knows guns, knows you can't just "snap on" a scope and have it make an 800m shot. So I'd like an automatic "Zeroing" stage added to guns with scopes.

How would it work?:
When you first attach a scope to a gun, it should be slightly out. When you fire, your character should auduably grumble, a "clicking" should be heard as they nadjust the scope, and then the gun should be slightly more accurate.
After firing a second time, the adjustment should happen again, till the gun is zeroed. (perhaps the "range up/down buttons could be brought in for some manual adjustment? I'm not sure). Default offset should be random to increase complexity. (can't just pick up a scope and know it's off to the right and up...)

After that, that gun is "Zeroed" and dropping it (I.E when dead), a player picking it up would get the advantage of that zeroing till the optic was removed and replaced.
Taking damage directly to the gun should also have a chance to knock the zero out, as well as "throwing" the gun on the floor (not dropping using G).

Why?:
It makes no sense to me that this bumbling idiot in a t shirt can't get out of the way of an opening door, but can nail an 800m+ shot with a mosin and a scope he found on the floor.
This would mean you'd need to take the time to prepare your gun for long shots, increasing your positional exposure. Perhaps even going off into the woods to zero it before tracking players as an extra "meta".

This would also mean if you go freshie hunting, a freshie picking up a random gun is at a disadvantage, but if they kill YOU, and get YOUR gun, people are now in danger.

This idea is a WIP, so any constructive thoughts or feedback is welcomed.

Some points that have been made:

  • Giving an already disadvantaged freshie more disadvantage over a geared player is a bad idea.

Agreed, this is why I changed my idea from a "gun proficiency stat per player" to a "Stat on the gun itsself". If you kill a geared player, you get his advantage.

  • Sounds horrid, I like it how it is.

Fair. I however would like a disadvantage given to a player who just found a scope. It makes sense it would need tuned to the gun/mount. This also makes the player give their position away when they first get the scope.

  • BUT WHAT ABOUT PRESS VESTS!!!

Yes, other bugs take priority of course. This is just an idea for the future. It still needs a lot of work before being implemented. I'd just like to hear other peoples views on it.
