I do agree with the sentiments from the community that the melee changes added for 1.03 are not that great and makes for a frustrating experience with both Infected and Players alike.

I think melee should allow freedom of movement like it did, it allowed to arc your attacks if needed but I think how to make melee better (In my opinion):

  • Pressing the attack button once should do a precise melee attack. (e.g stab with the knife/spear, using the head of a hammer/axe to "stab" etc). Allows for skill based precise striking.
  • Subsequent pressing of melee attacks quickly after the first one should then go into the combo of swings like it does, but allowing to keep movement during the arc movement. Allows for continued damage output for continuous stamina use.
  • Staggering should not be a feature in the game UNLESS being hit by a two handed weapon like a sledgehammer. Adrenaline would shrug off anything smaller and it gives a buff to slower two handed weapons.

I think that would make the melee much better and would keep the precise, skill based strikes of .62 prior builds and also the new changes of the new melee system.

At the very least the new melee changes added to 1.03 should be reverted.

Have to agree that this is easily the most disappointing implementation in regards to the new experimental branch. I'll be the first to say there have been numerous minor and a few major improvements but now I can't even fight an infected without bleeding or losing a bar of health at the least. To be honest I thought this was a glitch when I first tried it I was so confused. Hopefully 1.02 melee combat will stay instead of the new system.

The meele in 1.03 is bad

glitching z, no proper hit registering, z glitch into player, through wall, stunlock and and and
Its awfull.

And why not instead just give a bit of freedom of movement for the camera ? Like 15° so you can adapt yourself to give another punch ?

The new melee is GOOD but the camera is BAD. Lock the character but let the camera with a bit of freedom (not a 360° tho)

Thank you team for at the very least reverting the fixed camera during committed melee strikes. I guess the ticket could be closed but I think it might be good to keep it open for a bit if any additional feedback/suggestions regarding melee could be added to the ticket? I've edited the title slightly to possibly reflect this.
