I was carrying a leather sheath on a tactical belt. There was a red box when I dragged a hunting knife to the sheath's knife icon (see the first screenshot below), indicating that I couldn't put the knife there. Releasing the mouse button put the knife in the sheath (second screenshot). The box around the knife should have been green instead of red.
