Description

Had my second session on DayZ tonight since 1.0 after many years of waiting. Was a lot of fun and got some great gear and shot a dude. Logged out and a brief bit of reading, my character appeared in the menu with all his gear as he should. I then selected a new server maybe 5 minutes later and logged in, only to find myself at the new player spawn with none of my gear. I had a lot of fun playing but if I risk losing everything just by logging out and in again I see no reason to play. Are you aware of this issue? Will it be fixed? I would like to play but at this point I see a failed product. I actually logged back in as I had previously ran to a shovel I saw as I had read I could use it to bury gear in a stash. But on relogging realised even the server I had favourited had disappeared from the server list. So even if my character hadn't been wiped and I were able to log back in and bury some loot, it wouldn't matter because the server I had hidden it on would disappear from my list anyway.

GrandTheftEx updated the task description. (Show Details)

It possible that if you didn't wait the full fifteen seconds when logging out that someone ran up on you and killed you. I have killed many players trying to fast exit the game.

Possible but i doubt it. I wouldn't be reporting if this were likely. I was in a pretty barren location with a good view around me. This isn't a city log out we're talking. I'm standing in the woods and waited for the timer to countdown rather than force exiting the server.

I read elsewhere someone mentioned they thought relogging too early had reset their own character. If this is the case its a pretty game breaking bug, since avoidng relogging too early still won't confirm that was the cause, I'll still now be playing with the fear my character could unfairly be destroyed whenever I leave a game.

Hello GrandTheftEx.
Have you experienced this issue on official or on community server? As switching between various community servers will not carry over your characters gear due to the servers having different character databases.

Geez

Hi Geez,

Both servers were in the official list. I'm not sure if this is relevant but one of the servers had a message pop up in game saying it was a test server or something. The one I moved to said it was persistent. I'm going to try to reproduce the issue tonight by creating a character, grabbing some loot then switching servers. I'll make sure to test with one of those test servers and a persistent one.

Okay I believe it was the switching between experimental and persistent server that was my problem. Reloading into an experimental server today gave me my character back. Pretty chuffed but it would be nice to see GUI prompts regarding this kind of thing. I get that this game has a hardcore background coming from Arma and originally being a mod, but this product is now being marketed to a mainstream audience, even if it is still the more hardcore corner of that market. Guess I'd hoped things like this would be ironed out by now. At least the core mechanics of DayZ are enough for me to spend some time figuring the flawed design choices. It's like trying to start someone else's 10 year old motorcycle, even an experienced biker has to spend some time finding the right amount of throttle to get it turning over!

Thank you for the update.
Do you remember by any chance what kind of test server was it? If it was one of our testing servers it is possible it might have had different database from the other servers.

Geez

Sadly I only know that they were both in the official server list. Sorry :(
