Several times I found and put items in a barrel, but the barrel seems to disappear in most cases. Once I did have a barrel when I logged back in (I believe it may be server related) ie Do you have to log into the same server to persistence?

Go to Southwest of the Map, grab a barrel and log off and back on again and 90% of the time it will be gone.
