If you open a can with an axe or a knife, it will show it's full and if you inspect it, it will say 100% remaining. If you start eating from it, however, it will drop to the actual percent and the white bar representing the quantity will update only if you do that. It leads to an incomplete circle when you finish eating it, as seen in the screenshots. In this case, it was opened with a kitchen knife.
