Commander vehicle steering - Car left/Car Right controls conflict with freelook/turret turning mouse assignment.
New, NormalPublic

Description

Ongoing issue with mouse steering controls (Car left/Car Right) when a player is playing as the commander of a vehicle that has an AI as driver, this using the relatively recently implemented (Tanks DLC) commander vehicle steering).

Observed:
If you have Mouse Left/Mouse Right bound to both the Aim Left/Aim Right and the Car left/Car Right controls, then when as commander you move the mouse to look around in free-look or indeed to move the commander turret left or right, it will cause the vehicle (through the AI Driver) to steer in the direction of view.

Expected:
Moving the mouse left or right, when playing as a vehicle commander with an AI driver, should only rotate the players commander turret/weapon) or the free-look view. The vehicle should not turn left or right.

In controls > Vehicle controls: Make sure to bind Mouse Left/ Right to the controls for Car Left/Car Right and Aim Left/Aim Right
In the editor drive around with any vehicle with a commander position.

Additional Information

It is possible to avoid the issue by unbinding the Mouse Left/Right from the Car Left/Car Right controls. However this cause the player to have no mouse control when playing switches to the driver position of a vehicle.

Thus the player currently has to go back and reassign the controls each time they change position in a vehicle.

Un-assigning Mouse Left/ Right from the Car Left/Car Right controls using the keyboard for Car Left/Car Right is currently the only workaround, but the keyboard lacks the fine driving movement that the mouse affords.

This is most evident when playing in an armoured vehicle such as a Tank, with a commander turret weapon.

Event Timeline

You do realize that you are binding the same control to 2 different things and expecting it to work separately, right?

This here

Moving the mouse left or right, when playing as a vehicle commander with an AI driver, should only rotate the players commander turret/weapon) or the free-look view. The vehicle should not turn left or right.

is the default control setting of the game.

It took me a while, but you want something that the game does not support i.e. Binding the mouse movement together with another keyboard key to separate the two so that you can have both on the mouse. Well then you couldn't have said it in a more round about fashion than you already have. Next time try a different approach in explaining an issue also FYI this is not a bug, but a feature request.

Drops the mike.

Desert_Foxtrot, though it seems evident that you are just here to wind people up, you did actually inadvertently help me by directing me, (through other facetious comments in other topics), to one of the other reports for the same issue, that is with actual helpful information from Wulf.

I would suggest that Mike is best left where it is.

For anyone else stumbling on this, here is the link to the duplicate issue.

"Seems evident that you are just here to wind people up"

Slowly claps. Seems it worked because you reacted. But, unfortunately you are wrong. Also using a word like facetious...

You seriously consider issues I comment on in a facetious manner as serious? It seems that we have a fundamentaly different opinion on what is/isn't serious. Ninja rolling, binding the same control to two different functions and using stances in inapropriate situations. Seem to me like a fail on the users end rather than a serious issue with the game itself.

But hey, it is just my opinion if you don't agree that is your right.
