Sentinel Radar Warning Reciever Bugged
New, NormalPublic

Description

The sentinel RWR does not seem to detect active radar unless it is detected by the active radar or it detects the target by IRST or Active Radar first. For example a CSAT ZSU 35 with emissions set to active is not detected by the sentinels sensors unless the IR sensor is pointed at the ZSU35 and detects it or the ZSU35 detects the sentinel with the radar. I do not think this would be as intended as the passive radar should be able to detect the ZSU35 before being detected by the ZSU35's radar.

Steps To Reproduce

Place a ZSU35 in editor with emissions set to active. Fly a sentinel toward the ZSU35 and loiter about 3-5 KM away. Observe the sensor panel for an active radar target. If there is no target, point the IR sensor toward the ZSU35 and move closer to the ZSU35 until it is detected; observe that it now shows up as an active radar. Fly close enough to be detected by active radar and observe the ZSU35 is now shows up as active radar. Use a trigger that has BLUFOR detected with a hint on activation to see the timing of when detected by ZSU35 and when the active radar target is displayed.

Additional Information

I tried similar testing with the F/A 181 and that aircraft is able to detect the active radars further out and without being detected. This leads me to believe that it is specific to the sentinel. I also do not think that even though the sentinel may not have as good of sensors that is it is as intended as the timing of the detection is simultaneous.

Hello.

Thank you for the report. I was not able to reproduce this issue could you please upload a video with the issue? Thank you.

In this video you can see that the IR/VIS detection detects the ZSU35 before it shows it as an active radar. The Sentinel is within 2-3 kilometers. If you were to try this with most aircraft with passive radar they can detect the ZSU35 from upwards of 10 kilometers.

I can confirm the issue. Given that Sentinel can carry HARM missiles, it would have been a great SEAD platform... if the RWR worked correctly
P.S. It seems for all aircraft, RWRs shows signal when "the radar can detect me", not "when I can receive their radar". In reality, RWR detection should be at least twice as much as radar detection range
