Once you open the game options menu in game (MP or SP) and hit okay to close it, certain UI elements have changed. Some of the escape menu buttons are missing backgrounds, and if you go to the map the top bar has a white fade and the diary entries no longer have backgrounds.

Start any mission
Hit escape and go to game options
Hit okay (you don't need to change anything)
