0.62 Constant game lag + crashing, unable to play at all
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Il start of, in the first experimental branch release, everything was fine except when i went onto the server lists it would lag a lot and the background would freeze and stutter in the lag. Other than it ran fine.
I updated to the new experimental branch today 30/5/17, since then i physically cannot play. When i start the game i get the black screen with the dayz logo, this lasts for about 2 minutes, eventually the main menu loads. From here i go to server list and it is incredibly laggy just like before... I select a server and the first time (64b) i got stuck on the landscape view of chernarus for about 5 minutes and nothing happening, my computer then froze and i had to restart.

Second time (32b) Exact same happened from booting game, black screen wit logo, laggy server list, except i was then stuck on the landscape view of chernarus again for about 2 minutes, then a black screen for 1 minute, i then finally got a spawn timer. When the spawn timer finished i had a black screen again for about 2 minutes. Then pop'd up black screen with dayz logo, then the game crashed.

Third time, (32b) again same lag happened from booting, when i joined server i got stuck on the landscape view again for a couple of minutes, then jumped to a black screen, then game crashed again.

Hello gavinprior1 and thank you for the report.
Can you try the following and let us know if it has any effect on the issue?

  1. Go to the steam directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
  2. Go to the userdata folder
  3. There are folders (or one folder) with numbers in their name
  4. These folders should contain folder named "7"
  5. Open the 7 folder and in it find a folder called "remote"
  6. Open the remote folder and delete serverbrowser_hist.vdf
  7. Do this for all the "7" folders (only applies if you have more than one number folder (step 3))

Regards,
Geez

Okay i have done as instructed, upon starting game i still get stuck on black screen with dayz logo for about 1 - 2 minutes.
Now from this the menu screen and server browser works well with no lag, very fast and responsive so this part is fixed.

But now crashing when connecting to a server is hit or miss.. Example, i click to connect to server, i am greeted with the chernarus view that went after a few seconds as intended, then i get "please wait" then stuck on black screen for about 30 seconds, then successfully entered the server able to play, but crashed upon leaving the server.

I've tried again i get the view of chernarus then i receive "please wait" then black screen and then crash. I've tried multiple times logging in and out to recreate and It seems to switch between crashing upon entering server and crashing upon leaving server.
Hope this helps further.

Hello gavinprior1.
By crash, do you mean that your computer freezes as you mentioned in the original report? Are you using any startup parameters when launching the game? Is your computer overclocked? Do you remember if there have been any other changes in your computer on 30/5/17 other than the experimental dayz update?

Geez

Sorry, in my original report, the first time my computer crashed, all times after that the game itself crashes and i get the "memory could not be written" error message.
But this is not something i experience on Stable branch, nor did i experience this on the first 0.62 experimental branch. Only after the experimental update on 30/5/17.
Also there was no other changes on my PC on this date.
Also launch parameters i have set are -nosplash -noPause -skipinto
And my PC is not overclocked. Other than my set overclock that my GPU came as, i've made no changes.

Now since i have removed the file "serverbrowser_hist.vdf" that fixed the lag only on menu screen and server browser, but still getting crashes. when either entering or leaveing servers which again is the "memory could not be written" error message.

Hello gavinprior1.
Can you try to remove the launch parameters and let us know if that has improved the behaviour? As the startup parameters are not supported and are known to cause issues with the game, such as crashing.

Geez

I have done this now, and that appears to have helped the issue, but occasionally crashes with "memory could not be written" upon trying to exit the server, but not always, i no longer get this when joining server. If it fails to crash when leaving the server it crashes when leaving the game completely.

Hello gavinprior1.
Please upload the contents of your C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\DayZ folder to this ticket (the folder is hidden by default, make sure you have show hidden folders enabled) and we will take a look at the possible cause of the memory errors. The upload button can be found on the bar at the top of the comment window.

Geez

This is all i have been able to upload, there is some more but after several attempts it fails to upload.
Files failed to upload are - DayZ.RPT and also all the MDMP Files of what has uploaded.

Hello gavinprior1.
To properly analyse the crashes you are experiencing, we do require the .mdmp files the most. Would it be possible for you to put the mdmp files into rar/zip archive and try to upload them again?

Geez

Apologises in the delay of update, here are the .mdmp files. Just to update, the stable branch, the memory crashes still occur at random on connecting to a server, or leaving a server or leaving game. More common on leaving a server or leaving game.

Hello gavinprior1.
We have analysed the crash logs you have provided to us and the crashes you have experienced are already scheduled for a fix. However, can you try to remove the contents of your C:\Users\*username*\Documents\DayZ folder (not to be confused with the appdata folder) and let us know if this has lowered the crash frequency for you?
Regards,
Geez

I have done this and so far, it appears to have fixed the crash issue entirely (fingers crossed) as well as making it more responsive and quicker logging in and out of servers. So maybe some settings in that folder have been causing the crash.
